The National Weather Service has predicted a possible "major ice storm" to hit this area between Monday night and Wednesday morning.
A winter storm watch issued Sunday indicates a mix of freezing rain, sleet and snow to affect all of Southeast Missouri, Southern Illinois, southwest Indiana, western Kentucky and the extreme northwest tip of Tennessee.
Significant wintry precipitation, ranging from freezing rain to sleet to snow, is predicted, according to the weather service statement issued Sunday.
While the forecast is subject to change over the next 24 hours, the weather services advises people living in the areas that could be affected to be aware of the effect on travel over the next few days and prepare for possible power outages. The advice includes making sure cars have enough gas, making sur prescriptions will last beyond the storm, and having enough groceries on hand.
