American Legion Post 158

The Altenthal-Joerns American Legion Post 158 in Jackson met April 8 with David Hitt, commander, presiding over the meeting.

Jerry Seabaugh introduced Bill Alexander, who was running for the vice commander of District 14.

Hitt gave certificates to Jim Penrose, Mark Sides and Lynn Jones for helping when the club room was flooded.

John Hopkins introduced David Ludwig, who presented the program on Boys State and its many benefits.

The minutes of the last meeting were approved.

Hitt appointed past commanders as the nominating committee.

Larry Koehler gave the financial and honor guard reports. Lawson Burgfeld reported membership is at 642. Mike Strack gave the trustee and flag reports. Keith Seabaugh reported on visitation and gave the dance report. Virgil Whitener gave the house report. Bill Sullivan gave the club room report. Ludwig gave the Americanism report.

Kenny Koehler made a motion to spend $6,660 to sponsored the three baseball teams. The motion was seconded and passed. This was the second vote.

Koehler reported that the hamburger stand needed to be updated to meet health department standards. There was an emergency motion to spend $1,245 to update the stand. The motion was seconded and passed.

A moton was made by Koehler to spend $1,455 for the memorial plaque that will hang on the wall in the hall. The motion was seconded and passed. This was the second vote.

Contributions to the memorial scholarship fund were from Jim Nelson in memory of Jim McClintock; Harry and Anna Mae Trust in memory of Mike Hyson; American Legion Auxiliary in memory of Betty Davis; Post 158 Club Room in memory of John Drum; Janet Ludwig to the post scholarship fund; Thursday Foursome and Post 158 club room in memory of Ethel Wiseman; and Linda Bruce in memory of David Bruce.

Wonderworkers FCE

The Wonderworkers FCE went to Altenburg, Mo., for their day out and a brief meeting.

A discussion was held on the club's booth at SEMO District Fair.

Members were asked for ideas for a countywide project for FCE. Wonderworkers also needs a project for June.

Margie W. Reisenbichler and Dorothy Lichteneger attended the FCE meeting held at Sedgewickville, and they gave a report.

The club visited Saxony Museum and then had lunch at Dip & Dots in Altenburg.

St. Mary CCW

The St. Mary Council of Catholic Women met May 15 in the Huels Room.

Participating in the crowning ceremony were Parish School of Religion First Communicants Leeann Alpiers, Bethany Bomar and William Yuedy.

Reports were given on the spring assembly by Dolores Pobst, Hazel Blank, Pat Eftink and Imelda Nenninger.

Jelly and spaghetti were donated to the food pantry to celebrate Sister Lucille Zerr's birthday.

Diane Schaefer will continue as president until September.

The June 19 meeting will be in the Huels Room. It will be a planning meeting. All are encouraged to come with ideas for future programs and projects.

Lamplighters FCE

The May meeting of Lamplighters FCE was held at the home of Bev Meyer with all members present. A cayenne pepper sample and recipes were distributed to members by Linda Sebaugh, president.

Jackie Kurre, secretary, read the minutes, and Gayla Volz gave the treasurer's report. Both were approved.

Judy Meyers and Linda Freeman announced the June 19 meeting will be at Shogun Japanese Steak House in Cape Girardeau, with the meeting following lunch. This will also be the birthday celebration. Members were reminded to bring gifts for their secret pal. The 14 handmade quilt blocks that members made will also be exchanged at this meeting. Members will make something from their blocks that will be shown at a future meeting.

Karen McLane, Verla Mangels, Volz and Sebaugh attended the spring district meeting in Sedgewickville. McLane gave a report on the day's events.

JoAnn Hahs, Jackie Kurre, Bert Seyer, Karen Eakers, Sharon Bogenpohl, Mangels, Meyers and Freeman reported on their visit to the Amish area in Ava, Ill.

Members brought items to be delivered to the young ladies at Cottonwood Treatment Center. Members will continue to bring items and Sebaugh will make baskets to take each month to the center for "beauty night."

An outing is planned for Thursday to JoAnn's Greenhouse and lunch at Hoeckele Bakery and Deli.

Teresa Hinkebein gave a report titled "Being prepared."
