Video game club opening in West Park Mall

Video game addicts longing for a place they can gather for hours upon hours of play will have their wish granted with the opening of Playmoors inside Cape Girardeau's West Park Mall.

Scheduled for an early November opening, the video game club will allow patrons to pay one price to play a multitude of games on Wii, PlayStation 2 and 3, Xbox 360 and Nintendo Gamecube for a day.

Owner Tammy Biri said she began exploring the idea five years ago when she and her two teenage sons believed such a place for youngsters to gather was needed in the area. Since then they've collected various consoles, equipment and games to make their dream become reality.

"We've been working so hard to make this happen for the past few years, and soon it will happen," Biri said. "With few options like this offered in the area, I think it will be a huge success."

* ElderCare changes names: A Marble Hill, Mo., skilled nursing care facility open for 10 years has changed its name. Formerly known as ElderCare of Marble Hill, the facility is now known as Woodland Hills – a Stonebridge Community, according to administrator Roberta Jansen. The facility offers 24-hour care, respite, hospice and short-term rehabilitation. Woodland Hills has private suites or shared accommodations. * Premier Rehab relocating: A Cape Girardeau rehabilitation facility is planning a move to 1403 Mount Auburn Road. Currently at 2917 Independence St., Suite 400, Premier Rehab will complete the move on Nov. 9, according to director of marketing Summer Riney. The move will expand its space from 1,500 square feet to 4,000 square feet and will also include a new pool that will allow for aquatic therapy.

* Countertop business opens: Cape Girardeau's newest countertop business has opened.

Cornerstone Countertops, 1005 N. Kingshighway, offers installation of a range of styles for the kitchen, bathroom or other areas of the home.

* Drury expands into Phoenix: Drury Hotels, which started in Sikeston, Mo., has opened its first hotel in Phoenix.

The Drury Inn & Suites Pinnacle Peak recently accepted its first reservations at the hotel, which features a stucco exterior that complements Arizona's landscape. The hotel also has the usual amenities such as free wireless Internet access, long-distance calls, popcorn and beverages and full breakfast -- the same amenities that earlier in the summer helped the company secure its fourth straight JD Power and Associates ranking for "Highest in Guest Satisfaction Among Mid-Scale Limited Service Hotel Chains."

The opening marks the latest for the company's westward expansion, which includes hotels in Flagstaff, Ariz., and Las Cruces, N.M.

* Ribbon cuttings scheduled: Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce ribbon cuttings are planned for two businesses this week.

Qdoba, 3019 William St., Suite 101, will have its ribbon cutting at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. The Mexican restaurant opened Sept. 21. Richard Davidson and Jerry Wieser own the establishment, which can be reached at 332-1885.

At 2 p.m. Thursday the chamber will hold a ribbon cutting for Innovative Financial Planners in Cape Girardeau. The business is celebrating its move from 1707 N. Mount Auburn Road to 1923 N. Kingshighway.

Owned by Brock Alspaugh, Innovative Financial Planners specializes in retirement planning and investment services.
