JEFFERSON CITY -- The Missouri Department of Economic Development recently developed a Technology Report Card for Missouri-based on a compilation of studies previously done on the subject. Missouri was ranked against the national average and six states identified to be leading technology states: California, Colorado, Connecticut, Minnesota, New Jersey and New York.
A variety of indicators were used to identify Missouri's technological capabilities in four categories: high technology industries, money, speed and people.

Overall, Missouri ranked just below the national average and below the six leading technology states.
Missouri's strongest indicators were in gazelle jobs, private lending to small businesses and high school completion.
Missouri's struggled in the high technology category, which included measures of hi-tech industry employment, patents per million population and annual average pay.
Colorado ranked the highest of the leading technology states.
