Strickland Engineering on West Main Street in Jackson hosted the Jackson Chamber Business After Hours in May and celebrated its 25th anniversary to show its appreciation after providing consulting engineering services to its clients for 25 years.
The company moved to its new location on Main Street in March 2002 after renovating the former Sander Hardware building, a three-story, 11,600-square-foot building. Strickland Engineering occupies the third floor, and several other businesses lease space on the first and second levels.
Tom Strickland and his wife, Judy, started Strickland Engineering in 1979. The company began as a mechanical and electrical engineering firm, focusing on the design of heating and cooling systems. Many of his first projects were for school districts which had received grants to improve their buildings and make them more energy efficient.
Over the years the company has worked with more than 50 school districts in Southeast Missouri. As sons, Mark and Brian, and other employees joined the firm, services have expanded to include civil and industrial engineering and land surveying.
Mark Strickland joined the company in 1992. His responsibilities include mechanical and electrical engineering design, technical energy audits and project management. Brian Strickland joined the firm in 1999 after working in the engineering division of the city of Cape Girardeau for four years. His responsibilities include civil engineering, land surveying and project management.
Electrical engineer Shawn Weber joined the firm in 2000. Shawn was previously employed by Magnum Technologies Inc. in St. Louis and Tri-State Armature & Electrical Works Inc. in Memphis. Marcus McElveen, electrical engineering designer, joined the firm in 2004 after previous employment with Noranda Aluminum.
In 2001 the firm added land surveying services. Ronald Lange, with 30 years experience in Illinois land surveying, oversees this division.
Also employed at Strickland Engineering are office manager Roberta Feeney; AutoCAD technician Aaron Wright; Jack Strickland and Kevin Salzman, land surveying technicians; and Resa Strickland, AutoCAD technician and graphic designer. David Lynn, civil engineering designer, and Terry McCanless, mechanical engineering designer, are experienced designers in their respective fields.
In 2003 Strickland Engineering began providing electrical distribution design and gas corrosion testing services. These services are provided by Larry Simon, Henry Hinton and Harvey Roberts, recently retired from AmerenUE. In addition, J.C. Shetley, formerly of MODOT, conducts construction inspections. Strickland Engineering's goal is to continue providing quality professional engineering and land surveying services to its current and future clients.
