Riverfront Market looking for vendors

Vendors interested in taking part in the new Cape Riverfront Market can learn more about the project this week.

The new open air market will be held from 8 a.m. to noon Saturdays at the parking lot at 35 S. Spanish Street, across from Bel Air Grill. It will begin May 5 and continue every Saturday for the next 25 Saturdays.

The Cape Riverfront Market steering committee will hold a meeting for potential vendors at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, at Dockside: The Upper Deck, at 4 N. Spanish St.

Based on input gathered at a public form held in January, the market will include:

Farm products: fruits, vegetables, herbs, flowers, plants, eggs, meats, nuts, honey, maple syrup and cheese;

Value-added products: jams, jellies, pickles, coffee, baked goods and prepared foods; And nonfarm products and service: arts and crafts, homemade soaps, other services.

The new market will also feature demonstrations and entertainment weekly.

Yearly and daily vendor fees will be available.

* Envious Styles has opened at 208 Independence St. in downtown Cape Girardeau. The store, featuring heels, boots, sandals and accessories is owned by Marquetta Rush.

* A group of Southeast Missouri State University business students won first place in the 2012 Network of International Business Schools Worldwide Case Competition held Feb. 26 to March 2 in Rotterdam, Netherlands. Southeast is the first American school to win the NIBS Worldwide Case Competition. As the winning school, the team receives an automatic bye into the championship round to which 10 teams will be invited next year in Belgium. The NIBS Worldwide Case Competition is an international business case competition sponsored by NIBS, an association of 86 business schools from more than 30 countries located across the globe. Dr. Willie Redmond, associate provost for collaborative programs and professor of economics at Southeast, serves as coach and adviser to the team. Members of Southeast's team were Elizabeth Maldonado of Scott City, Mitchell Brunson of Springfield, Illi., Deanna Dippold of Thebes, Illi., and Egbar Ozenkoski of St. Louis. The 10 schools qualifying for the championship round in 2012 were, in order of rank: Southeast Missouri State University (U.S.), Carleton University (Canada), Dublin Institute of Technology (Ireland), Concordia University (Canada), Belmont University (U.S.), Memorial University (Canada), Rotterdam University (The Netherlands), International Business Academy (Denmark), Salisbury University (U.S.) and Katholieke-Hogeschool Leuven (Belgium).
