Nancy Backfish of Scott City, has been named the JTPA Alumni of the Year.
Backfish received the award recently from Joe Driskill, director of the Missouri Department of Economic Development, during the annual Governor's Conference at Tan-Tar-A.
Backfish lost her job with Florsheim when the plant closed in January. The SPIRALS Job Training program provided her with information about retraining courses and GED classes.
She completed the Basic Industrial Technical Skills class at the Cape Girardeau Career and Technology Center, then scored a scholarship level 311 in the GED exam.
She then accepted a job at Nordenia U.S.A., north of Cape Girardeau.
The SPIRALS Job Training Program is a partner with the Workforce Investment Board (WIB). Information about the WIB and its programs are available by contacting WIB executive director Ron Swift, (573) 334-0990, extension 13.
