Garland Land, director for the Missouri Department of Health, will speak to the Southeast Missouri Business Group on Health Wednesday.

The noon luncheon will be held at the Drury Lodge. Reservations and additional information are available by calling 651-4688. Cost of the luncheon is $10.

Land will discuss the health department's new "Buyer's Guide for Outpatient Procedures in Missouri."

Kim Groves of Cape Girardeau has joined the Cape Girardeau Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) as a group tour planner.

In her new duties at the CVB, Groves will assist group tour operators with local services. She will also coordinate and assist with site inspections for conventions and meetings that will be held in Cape Girardeau.

Groves was most recently an account executive for Targeted Publications, a division of the Southeast Missourian.

Linda Harris, Mitchell Mayberr and Carol Crawford have received promotions at Mercantile Bank of Cape Girardeau.

O.J. Miller, president and CEO, announced the promotions recently.

Harris was promoted to vice president/operations manager. She has been with Mercantile 17 years.

Mayberry and Crawford were promoted to assistant vice presidents. Both are loan officers in the consumer loan department.

Dr. Stanley D. Sides of Cape Girardeau has been appointed as Cancer Liaison Physician for the cancer program at Southeast Missouri Hospital.

The Cancer Liaison Program is part of a national network of more than 2,000 volunteer cancer liaison physicians who provide leadership and support to the Approvals Program, and other Commission on Cancer activities.

Sides received a three-year appointment.

Barbara Kosharek, a co-owner of the H&R Block tax office at Scott City, was recently honored for service with the company.

Kosharek started with H&R Block in 1979 as a tax preparer, and was office supervisor at the Sears & Roebuck H&R Block office before joining with Glenda Cassout to purchase the Scott City office in 1982. The Scott City H&R Block office is located in Scott City Plaza.

Pamela Sharp has been selected as the Lutheran Home's 1993 "Employee of the Year."

Sharp, of Cape Girardeau, joined the Lutheran Home, a skilled nursing facility, in September of 1990, and serves as director of the adult day care program. She is also activity director of the residential care unit.

She is a graduate of Southeast Missouri State University with a bachelor of science degree in education.

Jeff Hawkins of Advance was a recent winner of a DeWalt Tool and Accessory Workshop from Orscheln Farm & Home Co. at Dexter.

Hawkins is one of 10 winners in contests conducted by 74 Orscheln farm and home stores. Orscheln carries a full line of DeWalt tools and accessories.

Dr. Robert Kessinger, a specific chiropractor from Cape Girardeau, recently participated as an assistant instructor in a clinic at Spartanburg, S.C., which attracted more than 100 doctors.

Micheal Kale, an authority on specific chiropractic, was guest speaker at the seminar, which covered nerve reading instrumentation, its proper usage and how its use can help doctors provide better and more efficient service to patients.

Kessinger is a certified instructor in the Kale Upper Cervical Specific, and practices at 1424 Kurre Lane in Cape Girardeau.

Teresa Garrison, president of Medical Group Management Association of Missouri (MGMA-MO), was guest speaker at an area medical practice managers meeting in Cape Girardeau recently.

Garrison, administrator with St. Lukes Medical Development in Kansas City, discussed developing a local chapter of the MGMA-MO here.

A steering committee, comprised of Bill Port, Sarah Holt, Cindy Burcham and Tony Thompson, was formed to start the process of developing a local chapter. Additional information is available by contacting any member of the steering committee.

Gerald Cain, a farmer in the Jonesboro, Ill., area, has been appointed to the Union-Jackson Counties Regional Port District Board. Martin Twenhafel of Gorham, Ill., has been reappointed to the board.

Sue Gloth of Chaffee was the winner of a fur coat during a recent Mary Kay Cosmetics contest.

Gloth has been a Mary Kay beauty consultant for three years in the Wilma Dooley Unit.
