James B. Wilson, vice president of Jim Wilson Co., 2100 Themis, Cape Girardeau, and head of the company's tire department, has been elected president of Summit Tire Corp., a national tire distributing company headquartered in Tampa, Fla.
Jim Wilson Co., an employee-owned company, is a customer of Summit Tire Corp.
David Dormeyer, broker-owner of Prudential Bridgeport Inc. Realtors of Cape Girardeau and two sales associates, Marilyn Duffey and Marcia Schlueter, recently attended the national convention of the Prudential Real Estate Affiliates, held in San Diego.
Bridgeport Realtors, owned by Dormeyer and Roger Skinner, joined Prudential Real Estate Affiliates in August 1993.
Prudential Bridgeport sales associates Schlueter, Duffey, Jo Duff and Janet Dalton, and broker-owner Skinner also attended a one-day Prudential workshop in St. Louis recently.
Christy Williams-Gullett has joined KFVS12 as executive director. Williams-Gullett, a graduate of Purdue University with a degree in radio and television, most recently worked at WPSD-TV in Paducah, Ky.
Mike Beecher, KFVS12 news director, announced four new staff appointments recently.
Also joining the staff of Heartland News are Barb Hegwood, Stacy Broderick and Donna Wilson.
Hegwood, a graduate of Central Michigan University with a degree in broadcasting and cinematic arts, previously was news producer at WLUC-TV in Marquette, Mich. She will be primary producer for Heartland News at 6 p.m.
Broderick comes to KFVS from WLFI-TV in Lafayette, Ind. She is a graduate of Colorado State University with a degree in communications-journalism. Her duties include producing Heartland News at 5 p.m. as well as weekend evening newscasts.
Wilson, former anchor-reporter for WHIZ-TV in Zanesville, Ohio, is a graduate of Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville, with a degree in radio and television. She joins the news staff as a reporter.
Howard Meagle, vice president-general manager of KFVS-TV in Cape Girardeau, has been named president of the AFLAC Broadcast Group Southern Division.
In his new capacity, Meagle will continue to oversee the daily operations of KFVS and will supervise two of the other company-owned stations, CBS affiliate WROC in Savannah, Ga., and NBC affiliate, WITN in Washington, N.C.
Meagle began his career with AFLAC Broadcast Division 14 years ago. He started as station manager at KFVS in Cape Girardeau and later worked at WTOC and WITN before returning to KFVS in 1991.
Speakers have been named for the health care portion of the annual "Business Conference," to be held in April at the Show Me Center on the Southeast Missouri State University campus.
Katie Steele, Department of Health and Human Services, Region 7, will discuss "Health Issues: Current Issues Facing Business and What the Future Holds."
Health care panelists will include Belinda Heimericks, executive director, Missouri Nurses Association, who will discuss "Patient Care Issues in a Reformed Environment"; Charlotte Craig, administrator, Cape County Public Health Department, who will talk about "Health Care Issues at the County Level"; Ron Cates, deputy director, Missouri Department of Health, who will discuss "Missouri issues"; and William Shell, president MedAmerica HealthNet Inc., who will discuss "Physician Hospital Organization."
Arnold M. Weimerskirch, vice president for corporate quality at Honeywell Inc. of Minneapolis, will be keynote speaker during the one-day business conference, sponsored by Southeast Missouri State University's Donald L. Harrison College of Business and the Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce University Relations Committee. The other session of the day will include a retail panel discussion.
Shari Fioranelli of Chaffee, previously associate publisher of the Scott County Signal, has joined the Southeast Missourian in classified display sales.
The new position has been created to develop an expanded market for businesses looking to reach greater Cape Girardeau area consumers.
Fioranelli has more than 18 years in advertising and public relations in both newspapers and magazines.
Danny Blaylock, manager of McDonald's Restaurant on William Street in Cape Girardeau, has graduated with honors from McDonald's Corp.'s Hamburger University (H.U.), with a bachelor of hamburgerology degree and an appointment to the university's dean's list.
Blaylock received his degree after completing the H.U. advanced operations course. All McDonald's Restaurant managers, franchisees, midmanagement and company executives are required to complete the course.
McDonald's H.U. was founded in 1961. More than 50,000 students have graduated from H.U.
Brian Miller, Cape Girardeau County emergency operations coordinator; Scott Seabaugh, of the SEMO Amateur Radio Club; and Randon Grissom, communicator with the Cape Girardeau Police Department, were among more than 200 communication experts attending the recent State Emergency Management Agency conference.
The two-day conference, sponsored by SEMA and funded by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, is designed to promote using communications available during a disaster.
Topics included communications systems and equipment and how to use them during a disaster.
Dr. Rhonda Vinson, executive director of the Office of Economic Regional Development and acting assistant to the president for International and Economic Development at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale, has been appointed vice chairman of the Lower Mississippi Delta Development Center Inc.
The Delta Center, former the Lower Mississippi Delta Development Commission, designed to improve education at all levels, creates new econmomic markets for business and industry and develops leadership.
David S. Glastetter, broker-owner of ERA Cape Realty and five of his associates recently attended the ERA Real Estate International Business Conference, held at the Opryland Hotel in Nashville, Tenn.
Members of ERA Cape Realty attending the three-day meeting were Glastetter, Barbara Giddens, Ken Kiefer, Sandra Little, Loretta Turner and Larry Underwood.
A keynote motivational speaker at the conference was James A. Lovell, first man to travel to the moon twice.
