Laura Walz has assumed new duties with the Humane Society of Southeast Missouri.

Walz of Cape Girardeau is new development coordinator at the humane society and will head up a number of programs -- fund-raising, volunteer program coordination, public speaking to schools and organizations.

April is "Pets Are Wonderful" month. The humane society will have a booth at the Community Resource Fair at West Park Mall Tuesday and will participate in "Sunday in the Park" at Capaha Park April 23, Walz said.

Attorney Ellsworth D. Ware III has opened a law practice in Cape Girardeau.

Ware, a Kansas City native, is a graduate of St. Louis University and the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law.

He handles traffic, civil and criminal cases in both city and county courts. He is available by calling 651-6216.

Lavona Benoit has joined Cape Girardeau Residential Care Center as LPN/DON.

Benoit was previously employed at St. Francis Medical Center.

The new center will open April 17.

Kathryn Blevins of Chaffee, an advanced women's health care nurse practitioner employed by the East Missouri Action Agency's Family Planning Department, has been nominated for the 1995 "Tribute to Missouri Nurses" award in the category of patient care.

Blevins, a clinic supervisor to the Family Planning Clinic of EMAA at the Cape Girardeau office, has been with the local office for five years.

The awards program is in its fifth year.

Winners will be announced May 13 at a former dinner at Grant's Farm in St. Louis.

Lisa R. Neumeyer of Sikeston has been named manager of the Sikeston Factory Outlet Stores.

Neumeyer, a graduate of Southeast Missouri State University with a degree in business administration, has nine years management experience and has worked as manager of the Libbey Glass Store in the outlet mall the past two years.

The outlet center is near Interstate 55 and Highway 60 at Sikeston, and has 34 stores.

Neumeyer succeeds Courtney Corbett, who has accepted a position with Aztar Casino at Caruthersville.

Karen Mogelnicki, Birdie Rader, Doris Jean Arnold and Lynette Shirrell of Century 21 Key Realty, 980 N. Kingshighway, Cape Girardeau, recently attended the four-day Century 21 International Convention at Las Vegas.

Richard J. Loughlin, president and chief executive officer of Century 21 Real Estate Corp., was speaker at the convention.

A number of educational and motivational seminars were held throughout the conference.

Orville Schaefer of Schaefer Water Centers of Perryville was guest speaker during an educational seminar on small water systems at the National Water Quality Association Convention at the Opryland Hotel in Nashville, Tenn.

Schaefer, a past president of the Missouri Water Quality Association, discussed how his company serves small water systems by providing testing, consulting and engineering services.

Schaefer Water Centers, founded in 1952, provides water treatment and bottled water to residential, commercial and industrial applications. The company has offices in Perryville, Cape Girardeau and Herculaneum. It also includes a well service division, Longtown Water Wells.

Mike Carney of Jackson won a 1995 American Standard Telecaster Guitar and case during a recent promotion by Mayberry Music, 104 S. Main, Anna, Ill.

Mayberry Music sells a number of musical instruments and supplies.

Dr. Robert Kessinger, a specific chiropractor from Cape Girardeau, was speaker during a recent Kale Network Conference at Spartanburg, S.C.

Kessinger, a member of the Kale Research Council, operates a clinic at 1424 Kurre Lane in Cape Girardeau.

Jerry Henley of Cape Girardeau has been elected president of Travelers Protective Association Post M, at 150 S. Middle, Cape Girardeau.

Other officers elected recently were Margret Dickerson of Jackson, vice president; Clyde Wallis of Cape Girardeau, secretary-treasurer; and Leon Dickerson of Jackson, who will represent Post M on the state board.

Mark McGuire of Chaffee was elected to the Post M Board of Directors. Dale Wallis of Jackson and Dan Dewrock, David Wallis, Juanita Henley and Leslie Haman, all of Cape Girardeau were re-elected to the board.

Long-time board members J. W. "Brownie" McBride, Robert Hartle and Norman Sebastian announced their retirement from the board.

Suzanne Michael of First National Bank has been named investment executive for Financial Network Investment Corp.

Michael, a stock broker, will sell mutual funds, stocks, bonds, annuities and government securities.

Financial Network and Investment, founded in 1983, is a nationwide marketer of investment insurance products.

Michael's new position offers customers a complete investment center inside the bank.

Darlene L. Bonney has joined Heartland Realty, 2142 E. Jackson Blvd., Jackson, as a sales associated.

Bonney of Jackson most recently worked for Boatmen's Bank of Cape Girardeau in the Jackson branch. She previously worked for Heritage Savings and Loan, which later became First Federal Savings and Loan of Cape Girardeau, where she was a branch manager and loan officer.
