Donna Eftink of Perryville has joined Shumate's Electrolysis of Cape Girardeau. Donna Eftink of Perryville has joined Shumate's Electrolysis of Cape Girardeau.

Eftink, a graduate of Southeast Missouri State University where she majored in biology and minored in chemistry, is a certified clinical electrologist. She obtained her electrology certification at the National Commission on Electrology Certification in Memphis, Tenn., and is active in the electrology continuing education program.

She recently attended the 21st annual NEES Education Symposium, sponsored by Shelby State College and the International Electrology Educators.

She is a member of the Society of Clinical and Medical Electrologists and the Missouri Association of Professional Electrologists.

Ted Coalter of Heartland Insurance Agency, has received the M. Luther Hahs Life Underwriter of the Year Award.

Coalter, who was also elected president-elect of the Cape Girardeau Association of Life Underwriters, received his award during a meeting of Life Underwriters.

The award recognizes Coalter's outstanding contribution to the life and health insurance industry and to the community.

Coalter is a graduate of Southeast Missouri State University with a major in business administration and minor in pre-law.

Rebecca Hart of Cape Girardeau has joined KGMO Radio as promotion director, a new position for the company.

Hart, a recent graduate of Southeast Missouri State University with a bachelor's degree in business administration. She majored in marketing and will handle promotion for KGMO and Hot Talk KAPE in Cape Girardeau and KSTG and KMPL in Sikeston.

Jay Landers and Joe Bill Davis recently joined the sales team for KSTG and KMPL stations at Sikeston.

Landers, formerly of Louisville, Ky., moved to Cape Girardeau two years ago. He has more than 25 years of experience in all facets of radio, from broadcasting to station manager. He is a graduate of Murray State University, with a master's degree in mass communications and speech.

Davis, of Benton, has 16 years experience in sales.

Jack Watts, manager of the Cape Girardeau Orscheln Farm & Home Supply Inc., 338 S. Christine, recently completed a Manna Pro Feed training program at Kansas City.

Among items discussed at the workshop were basic feed stuffs for a number of farm animals, including swine, cattle, sheep, rabbit, dogs and cats. Also discussed were specialty items such as minerals, milk replacers and probiotics.

David Rudert of Perryville recently attended a national sales and education conference at Panama City Beach, Fla., sponsored by Aid Association for Lutherans, a fraternal benefit society headquartered at Appleton, Wis.

Rudert, an associate of the Jack Hollingsworth Agency of AAL, Independence, qualified to attend the conference with outstanding sales and service to AAL members during 1995. He was also honored for achieving excellence in fraternal service during the special volunteer recognition at the conference.

Ruder has qualified for the national conference six times since joining the AAL staff in 1990.

Julie Thompson Recker, formerly of Cape Girardeau, will be recreational president for the state of Florida in 1997. She previously served as recreation superintendent with the Kissimmee (Fla.) Parks and Recreation department.

Julia and her husband, Robert Recker, a native of Iowa, moved to Osceola County seven years ago. Robert Recker was recently named president of the Kissimmee/Osceola County Chamber of Commerce. Recker was one of 10 applicants for the chamber position. He is a graduate of Orlando College, with a marketing degree.

Jim Crain, pharmacist and owner of The Medicine Shoppe Pharmacy, 864 N. Kingshighway, received the 1995 Medicine Shoppe Community Service Award.

Crain earned the award for participating in a variety of health-care screening and wellness programs throughout the year, such as blood-pressure checks, body fitness evaluations and foot clinics. These programs educate the public about wellness issues.

Medicine Shoppe Pharmacy in Cape Girardeau is part of a 1,000-store franchise system. Pharmacies are locally owned an operated.

Dr. Thomas Gibbons, an optometrist at Regional Eyecare Center Inc. in Cape Girardeau, has been selected as an examiner for the National Board of Examiners in Optometry (NBEO).

The NBEO tests the clinical proficiency of recently graduated optometric students around the nation who must pass examinations to receive licensing.

Gibbons attended Southeast Missouri State University and received his Doctor of Optometry from the University of Missouri-St. Louis. He has served as an adjunct clinical professional for the UM-SL School of Optometry.

Gibbons specializes in contact lenses and treatment of ocular disease. He has been with Regional Eyecare Center since 1992.

Randy Holdman of Drury Southwest has been elected president of Cape West End Merchants Association.

Other officers include Bob Hoppmann, Pasta House Co., as vice president; Dr. Shanon Kirchhoff, secretary; and Shirley Talley, treasurer.

Holdman was guest speaker at the first anniversary meeting of the association, discussing economic development in the Cape West End, with the theme "Grow the Tax Base, Not the Tax Rate."

Dan Elkins of Hecht's is the new president of the Downtown Merchants Association.

Other officers, elected last week, include Judith Ventrella, of Judith Anne's, vice president; Evelyn Boardman, Boyd Gaming Corp., secretary; and Jayne Ervin, Ervin's Metalsmiths Inc., treasurer.

John Selby, president of Stereo One Inc., attended the Habatech Convention at Orlando, Fla., recently, participating in courses and workshops related to trends in home electronics systems.

Topics included home lighting controls, home theater design, security and telecommunications.

Stereo One, 345 S. Kingshighway, is an electronics retailer offering audio-video, design, installation and service.
