University director gets designation

Trudy Lee, director of Planned Giving with the Southeast Missouri State University Foundation, recently received the professional designation of certified specialist in planned giving from the American Institute for Philanthropic Studies at the California State University, Long Beach Foundation.

To earn the CSPG designation, Lee demonstrated substantial knowledge and skill in all aspects of charitable gift planning through classes and exams over a one-year period and a final practicum approved by the program faculty.

"This certification demonstrates Trudy's technical knowledge as well as her commitment to serving donors and professional advisers in a competent and ethical manner," said Alan Zacharias, foundation executive director. "We're proud of her accomplishment."

Since 1993, the CSPG program has been training individuals from a variety of professions, including attorneys, accountants, financial planners, trust officers and fund raisers. Lee is the ninth person in the Midwest to receive the CSPG designation and only the second in Missouri.

Patricia L. Ray has been named to St. Francis Medical Center's board of directors. She is an attorney with Limbaugh, Russell, Payne & Howard in Cape Girardeau, specializing in health law. The Rev. John J. Leibrecht, bishop of the Springfield-Cape Girardeau diocese, has approved her appointment.

"Mrs. Ray will be an asset to the St. Francis Medical Center board of directors because of her varying experiences in health care," said Harry Rediger, board chairman. "Her work as a nurse exposed her to the difficult issues that confront health care professionals and her legal career has permitted her to become more involved in the complex relationships that exist in the health care setting."

Ray is a member of the Zonta Club of Cape Girardeau, Cape Girardeau County Bar Association, Missouri Bar, National Health Lawyers Association and the State Bar of California. She is also on the Board of Directors for Project Hope and Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA).

Ray has served as legal advisor to the San Diego Chapter of the American College of Surgeons, legal advisor to the board of directors of the California Science Teachers Association and a member of the ethics committee at St. Francis Medical Center. Ray also served on the board of governors at the San Diego Rehabilitation Institute in San Diego, Calif.

Ray received a juris doctor degree from The Catholic University of America, a bachelor's degree in social policy of health care from State University of New York at Buffalo and received a nursing degree from The Medical College of Pennsylvania.
