Micahia Session, a student at the Cape Girardeau Career and Technology Center, has been certified by the Institute for Assessment of Skills and Knowledge for Business, or ASK, as a "high achiever" in fundamental business concepts.
The exam was administered earlier this month by the institute, and about 50 percent of those taking the exam meet the high-achiever criteria. Less than 10 percent of those who take the exam are recognized for "exemplary achievement."
The institute is a not-for-profit partnership of the national student organization DECA and the MBAResearch and Curriculum Center.
The exam measures basic knowledge and understanding of key business concepts, according to the institute, including business administration, communications, economics, finance, promoting, selling and related skills.
The ASK certification, established in 2003, seeks to identify business students who can demonstrate proof of learning of key concepts validated in the business community nationwide, according to the institute. Four ASK certification exams are offered, including fundamentals of marketing, fundamentals of business, finance and entrepreneurship/management.
Local businesses and business-focused professional associations are encouraged to join the ASK initiative by endorsing the certificate and contributing to the identification of key business skills appropriate to college and high-school curriculum.
