Debbie Thurman of Coldwell Banker Abernathy Realty in Jackson recently was named the 2014 Realtor of the Year by the Cape Girardeau County Board of Realtors.
Candidates for the award are nominated and selected by their peers and must meet strict application requirements, including service to the organization, their use of ethical business practices and their commitment to serving the community, according to a news release from the board. Thurman serves and has served on multiple committees for the organization and the Missouri Realtors organization and is treasurer for the Cape Girardeau County Board of Realtors. She also maintains designations as short sales and foreclosure specialist and certified negotiation specialist from the National Association of Realtors, and is an active volunteer in the Jackson School District.
Steve Cook recently was named public works director for the city of Cape Girardeau. He most recently was assistant public works director in a 38-year career with the city that began at the wastewater treatment plant, according to a release from the city.
Adam Halter has been hired as golf-course manager at the Cape Jaycee Municipal Golf Course. Halter previously worked more than eight years at Dalhousie Golf Club, according to a release from the city of Cape Girardeau. He attended Jackson High School and is a graduate of Southeast Missouri State University.
Scott Yoder recently was recognized as the 2014 Driver of the Year by Buchheit Logistics. Yoder received the award, according to a release from the company, for an outstanding safe driving record, years of service, quarterly training participation, yearly miles driven, customer service and company/community involvement. Yoder has been with the company since 2011.
