Delta farmer recognized in corn yield contest

Jerry Cox, a Delta farmer, won recognition in the 2007 National Corn Growers Association yield contest. Cox took top honors in the AA Ridge Til Non-irrigated category, repeating his win from 2006. In 2007, Cox recorded 271.1 bushels per acre, earning a $4,000 bonus from Bayer CropScience for using their Poncho herbicide on his winning acreage. The award was presented Friday in Nashville, Tenn.

Woman inducted into auctioneer's hall of fame

Claudia Barks of Barks Auction & Appraisal Service, 5417 Old Cape Road in Jackson, was inducted into the Missouri Professional Auctioneers Hall of Fame during the auctioneers' association annual conference Feb. 24 in Springfield, Mo. Barks became only the second woman on the into the association's hall of fame list, which prior to the induction ceremony included 32 names.
