Three earn real estate designation

Liz Abernathy, Patty Main and Linda Brown of Coldwell Banker Abernathy Realty in Jackson, Mo., have been awarded the Accredited Buyer Representation designation by the Real Estate Buyer's Agent Council, Inc., of the National Association of Realtors. They join more than 24,000 real estate professionals in North America who have earned the ABR designation. The requirements include a two-day course in buyer representation, a written exam on legal and practical aspects of client representation, and practical experience in the field of buyer representation.

Contractor attends training session

Jim Roussel of Anchor Construction attended Conklin Warranty Training in Kansas City, Mo., on Jan. 15-17. The three-day course gives contractors an opportunity to learn about Conklin metal roof repair systems, ply roofing systems, single ply and spray foam coating systems for new construction and retrofitting of existing roofs. After completion of this session, attendees are approved to offer a variety of warranties on Conklin roofing systems.

Two join regional wireless network

Patrick Abbott and Robert Mallin have joined the Cape Girardeau-based Big River Telephone, which operates a regional fixed wireless network that delivers local, long distance, data and Internet services to the region. Abbott and Mallin will both be account executives. Abbott has more than 10 years in sales and telecommunications and Mallin has been in the business for 15 years.

Insurance agent marks 25 years

Tim Caldwell of Tamms, Ill., is celebrating 25 years of serving the insurance needs of customers in the Pulaski and Alexander counties area. Caldwell is an agent with Country Insurance and Financial Services. Caldwell has been named All American 13 times, All Star 15 times and recognized in the Big Dance three times. These awards and recognitions are given annually by Country to agents for outstanding insurance sales and service. Caldwell has also been named a member of the Management Academy.

Parrent named to new post

Former Cape Girardeau resident Robert W. Parrent has been appointed vice president of student affairs at the University of Southern Indiana. Parrent has 21 years of experience in college administration. He was associate vice president for enrollment management at Southeast Missouri State University from 1997 to 2000, responsible for such offices as admissions, financial aid services, and registrar. Parrent moved to corporate management in 2000 to become chief operations officer for Sheldon Management and Consulting in Kentucky. Parrent returns to higher education with the USI appointment.

CPA attends workshop on 401(k) auditing

Michael A. Radake, a CPA with Schott & Van de Ven, attended a workshop on audits of 401(k) plans. The workshop covered how to audit a 401(k) plan and prepare financial statements that satisfy federal requirements. Radake works in the employee benefit division of the firm and is responsible for administering the company's benefit plans. He is a member of the Missouri Society of Certified Public Accountants and Cape West Rotary Club.

Rigdon named to banking post

Karen Rigdon has been awarded the corporate title of vice president in consumer real estate at Bank of America. Rigdon joined Bank of America in 1997 as an account executive. Prior to that, she had served as a branch manager at Farm and Home Savings Association, and as vice president at First National Bank of the Mid-South in Cape Girardeau. Rigdon has more than 20 years of banking experience and is a member of the local board of Realtors, chamber of commerce, and Excelsior Optimist Club.
