Schnucks Markets' Cape Girardeau liquor manager Doug Hileman was recognized as a certified specialist of wine by the Society of Wine Educators. To earn the distinction, Hileman was required to pass a test posing questions about wine geography, grape varieties, growing techniques, chemistry, soil composition and wine etiquette. He becomes one of 1,600 certified wine specialists worldwide and the only one in Southeast Missouri. He has been liquor manager at Schnucks in Cape Girardeau since February 1992 and an employee of Schnucks for more than 28 years.
Jim Barbatti returned to the Show Me Center on Feb. 14, taking over again as operations manager, replacing Kasey Guss, who resigned in January to accept a position with the Breslin Center at Michigan State University. Barbatti returns to a post he held from 1996 through 2001. As operations manager, Barbatti is responsible for converting the Show Me Center for different events as well as oversight of cleaning and maintenance.
Autumn Grimm of Cape Girardeau was named February employee of the month for the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services. Grimm, who works in the Bureau of Communicable Disease Control and Prevention, is stationed at the Southeast Missouri Regional Health Office. Grimm won her award for her work leading a team that discovered an algae contamination in the Mountain Grove, Mo., water supply that was causing intestinal illnesses.
Withers Broadcasting of Cape Girardeau announced that Rick Lambert, general manager, is a finalist for the 2008 Radio Wayne Award from Radio Ink Magazine as general manager of the year.
David Maxton has joined Stifel, Nicolaus & Co. Inc., as a financial adviser in the firm's Cape Girardeau office. Maxton moved to Stifel Nicolaus from 18 years with Kimberly Clark, where he was an engineering project manager in Paris, Texas, and Neenah, Wis. Maxton is a 1985 graduate of Central High School in Cape Girardeau and holds a degree from Purdue University.
