Microfinancing Partners in Africa recognized Judy Kuhlmann, patient advocate at Saint Francis Medical Center, for her contributions to supporting the organization's work for economic development among Africa's poorest people. Kuhlmann was presented an African handbag made by a woman who received a microfinancing loan. Kuhlmann won the recognition for her personal donations, and efforts to obtain donations from others, that included sewing machines, quilts, quilt patterns and sewing notions. The items were given to African women who received loans through the microfinancing program.
Three former staff members from Spa 151 have found new homes at Elements the Ultimate salon. Paula Keller, a licensed massage therapist with 15 years of experience; Donna Patterson, a licensed massage therapist with eight years of experience; and Danny Schuff, a hairstylist with 19 years of experience, have set up shop in the salon in LaCroix Village on Route W in Cape Girardeau, owner Madra Jones announced. Spa 151 closed in late January as a result of disagreements in a divorce between owners Ashli and Scott Rowland.
Dr. Wanda Pipkin, a Jackson veterinarian, and staff members Brooke Stephens of Jackson and Teri Degenhardt of Perryville, Mo., attended a continuing education program at the annual Missouri Veterinary Medical Association convention at Branson, Mo. Pipkin, of Dear Ridge Animal Hospital, also spoke at the Christian Veterinary Mission breakfast where she presented information about her recent monthlong trip to Mongolia to assist animal care workers.
