The United Way of Southeast Missouri has appointed Scott City Mayor Tim Porch to its board of directors. Porch has lived in Scott City since 1969 and is the owner of Interior Plus, a commercial subcontractor specializing in metal studs, gypsum drywall, insulation, acoustical tile ceilings and plastering. He has contracted with many local businesses in the area, including Sears Grand, the Jackson School District and HealthPoint Fitness Center. He has served as mayor of Scott City since 2000 and before that he served as a Scott City councilman. He currently serves as a member of the Cape Girardeau Area Magnet group. "Tim brings to the United Way the perspective of the community of Scott City which is served by the United Way of Southeast Missouri," said Jean Mason, chairwoman of the board of the United Way of Southeast Missouri. United Way makes a difference in Scott City through the support of the Scott City Ministerial Alliance and the Scott City R-4 Children's Fund. In the past year, 1,130 families received aid from the basic needs assistance including utilities, fuel and food pantry and 120 Children were assisted with items such as glasses, clothing, shoes and medications.
Cottonwood Residential Treatment Center recognized Angie Pikes as the 2010 Employee of the Year during its annual Employee Relations Day. Pikes is a psychiatric aide who has been with the program for 12 years working in direct care and in the classrooms. Her co-workers cited her positive and professional attitude, respect for others and outstanding work with children as qualities that contributed to her selection. Cottonwood, on the campus of Southeast Missouri State University, is a Department of Mental Health facility that provides residential treatment to children who have emotional and behavioral problems.
Alan Kridelbaugh recently attended the fall Missouri Society of Certified Public Accountants committee meeting in Columbia, Mo. He is an active member of the accounting and auditing committee. As a member of this committee, Kridelbaugh has written articles for the MSCPA's bimonthly publication, The Asset, and helps plan the annual Accounting and Auditing Conference, which this year will be Nov. 16 in St. Louis. Kridelbaugh is both a CPA and a certified fraud examiner with the firm Schott & Associates, P.C. in Cape Girardeau.
The Jana Jateff unit with Mary Kay Cosmetics recently held a luau honoring star consultants for the quarter. Kay Waller and Jana Jateff, both of Cape Girardeau, were honored for production.
