Cape native to distribute new medical product

Cape Girardeau native Alan Terry's company, Sonorex, will become the exclusive distributor for a medical device that treats tennis elbow now that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has given approval to the product.

Terry, who is chief financial officer for the company in Fayetteville, N.C., said that a company called Siemens Medical Solutions manufacturers Sonocur, a new shock-wave device. The device is used to apply a shock tube to a spot of tenderness that is caused by lateral epicondylitis, commonly called tennis elbow.

After a certain number of applications, Terry said, the tennis elbow is cured.

The company Terry works for worked with Siemens to develop the product and get it approved by the FDA. The product will be targeted to orthopedic surgeons and hospitals.

Terry's parents are Eloise and Bill Terry, a retired urologist. Terry graduated from Central High School in 1976. He lives in Pinehurst, N.C., with his wife, Penny, and two children.

Johns, Poston attend advanced CPA course

Debra K. Johns and Howard J. Poston, CPA, with Schott & Van de Ven, Certified Public Accountants attended a course called "Advanced Update for Compilation and Review Engagements."

The course covered changes in standards governing preparation of financial statements. Sponsored by the Missouri Society of CPAs, the course was held in St. Louis. Johns and Poston will receive continuing educational credit for attending.

Schott & Van de Ven is a full-service public accounting firm at 1020 N. Kingshighway, Suite D, Cape Girardeau. Founded in 1959, the firm has satellite offices in Marble Hill, Mo., and Marion, Ill.

Family Birthplace announces new director

Karen Thomas, RN, has been named the new director of maternal child health services at St. Francis Medical Center. Thomas was the administrative director of Women and Children's Services at Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital in Wyandotte, Mich. Thomas has earned a bachelor's degree in health services management from Spring Arbor University in Spring Arbor, Mich., and an associate's degree in nursing from the Wayne County Community College in Detroit.

Volkerding makes Million Dollar Round Table

Kenneth Volkerding, FIC, of Jackson, Mo., has earned the honor of membership into the Million Dollar Round Table. Volkerding is a financial associate with Thrivent Financial for Lutherans. The MDRT is an international, independent association of leading life insurance producers.

Volkerding is with the Kansas Missouri Regional Financial Office in Leawood, Kan., and serves Lutherans and their family members in the surrounding communities.

New associates join ERA Cape Realty

Rene Smith, Sarah Courtois and Charles Hamilton have recently joined the ERA Cape Realty staff at 1409-A N. Mount Auburn Road.

Smith was born in St. Louis and raised near Pevely, Mo., and is currently living in Jackson, Mo. Courtois was raised in the Perryville, Mo., area and now lives in Cape Girardeau. Hamilton was born in Charleston, Mo., and has lived in Cape Girardeau for 13 years.

Hahs receives Diamond Award at annual meeting

David L. Hahs, CLU, ChFC, financial representative, received the Diamond Award and was recognized July 22 during the 122nd Annual Meeting of the Association of Agents for sales achievements during the year ending May 31.

Hahs is associated with the Network's Hahs District Agency in Cape Girardeau, of the Hempstead General Agency in St. Louis.

Ervin takes in jewelry fashion, buying show

Jayne Ervin of Jayson Jewelers, Ltd., joined retail jewelers from across the country in a three-day show that brought in the latest in fine jewelry.

The Retail Jewelers Organization held the buying show for its more than 750 members, including Ervin and Regan Kelley. RJO is an exclusive national jewelry-buying group and only the nation's top jewelers, as rated by the Jewelers Board of Trade, are eligible for membership.

New foundation board members announced

Richard R. Cuba, Mary McElreath Kistner and Steve Taylor were welcomed as new members of the St. Francis Foundation at the July meeting.

Cuba graduated from the University of Missouri, Columbia, where he received an industrial engineering degree concentrating in economics. He helped co-found First Financial Planners Inc., a full-service financial planning firm.

Kistner graduated from Southeast Missouri State University with a bachelor's degree in business administration and is a graduate of Realtors Institute and the Missouri Association of Realtors, Columbia. As a broker/manager and owner of RE/MAX Realty One, Kistner is also an independent insurance agent with Capital Insurance & Associates and a broker/owner of McElreath Realty & Insurance.

Taylor is a graduate of Southeast Missouri State University and is president of Bank of America in Cape Girardeau. He has 20 years of experience in banking, four years with Bank of America and 16 years with Bank One Texas.

Outgoing members Danny Essner and Joe Sullivan were also honored at the July meeting. Essner served six years on the board and is a past president. Sullivan served five years and is a past secretary.
