Registered nurse Bonnie Miller was elected by her co-workers as employee of the year at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau. Miller started at the facility in 2003. Administrator Jan Rau made the announcement at the annual employee appreciation night/bingo bash held at VFW Post 3838.

Surgical specialist joins Kies Eye Center

Dr. Brent R. Davidson has joined the staff of Kies Eye Center. Born in St. Louis, Davidson completed an undergraduate degree at Drury University in Springfield, Mo., and earned his doctor of medicine degree at St. Louis University School of Medicine. A member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, Davidson specializes in no-shot, no-stitch, no-patch cataract surgery, laser surgery and general ophthalmology. He will be seeing patients in Kies Eye Center's Cape Girardeau, Poplar Bluff, Dexter, Sikeston, Perryville, Marble Hill, Fredericktown and Farmington locations.

Assistant city engineer gets professional license

Abdul Alkadry, assistant city engineer for Cape Girardeau, has recently received notice that he has passed the exam for the professional engineering license. Alkadry was appointed as assistant city engineer on June 13. In order to get the license, engineers must pass an exam including academic knowledge and experience gained in the engineering or surveying practice. Alkadry has been employed by the city engineer's office since 1999.

Edward Jones rep wins sales, service award

Juanita Penfield, a Cape Girardeau Edward Jones investment representative, recently received the firm's Winner's Circle Award for her sales and service efforts over the past year. Penfield was one of only 883 of the firm's more than 9,000 investment representatives to receive the award. Penfield has been serving the Cape Girardeau area since 2002.

Mary Kay honors top producers

Future executive senior sales director Jana Jateff of Cape Girardeau recently announced her top performers for the quarter: Amy Romack of Cape Girardeau and Sherry Campbell were honored at a banquet at Dexter Bar-B-Que in Cape Girardeau.

Controller completes series of presentations

Patrick McCann, the controller at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau, recently completed a series of eight presentations titled "Budgets and Finance in Long-term Care," which were sponsored by the Missouri League for Nursing. These presentations were held in Sedalia, Kansas City, Sikeston, St. Louis, Macon, Jefferson City, Joplin and Springfield. The purpose of this workshop was to develop knowledge and skills required for managing the long-term care financial environment.

Cape resident named outstanding CPA

CPA Steve Del Vecchio has been named Outstanding Certified Public Accountant in Education by the Missouri Society of CPAs. He was chosen for his contribution to the advancement of Missouri's accounting profession and was honored for his achievements at the MSCPA's annual convention June 2 to 4 in Lake of the Ozarks.
