Cape man honored for volunteer work
Eugene Simpson of Cape Girardeau was recently selected Volunteer Employee of the Month at the Tamms Correctional Center in Tamms, Ill. He volunteers about 1,000 hours a year as assistant scoutmaster for the Grace Methodist Troop 4002 in Cape Girardeau. In addition, Simpson has also coached Wreck and Khourie League baseball in the Cairo, Ill., and Cape Girardeau areas. He is also a graduate student at Southeast Missouri State University. Simpson has worked at Tamms as a correctional officer since 1998.
Jackson woman reaches new position
Susan Seabaugh of Jackson has been promoted to the position of senior regional sales director with the AmeriPlan Company, which provides discount health benefits.
Cape salon welcomes new hairstylist
Elements The Ultimate Salon in Cape Girardeau has recently brought in a new hairstylist, Nikki Wells. She is now accepting walk-ins Tuesday through Saturday.
Mary Kasten elected to board of directors
Former state representative Mary Kasten has been elected to fill a position on the Kasten Masonry Sales Inc. board of directors. The announcement was made at that company's annual shareholder's meeting Tuesday. The postion she will be filling was formerly held by her husband, Melvin Kasten.
Big River names new account executive
Soni Likens of Cape Girardeau has joined Big River Telephone Company as its new account executive. Likens comes from Philadelphia, where she worked as a sales and design associate and account manager.
Three accountants attend planning seminar
William Schott, Melvin Van de Ven and Scott Van de Ven recently attended the advanced planning seminar in St. Louis. All three are certified public accountants with Schott and Van de Ven in Cape Girardeau. The two-day training event included courses on estate planning, compensation planning, education funding and irrevocable trusts.
Stevens selected as Teacher of the Year
Wal-Mart recently announced that Jennifer Stevens has won the company's Teacher of the Year award. As part of this honor, she received a $1,000 grant payable to Central Middle School in Cape Girardeau, where she teaches sixth grade.
Cape real estate broker receives award
Coldwell Banker real estate broker Sandy Helwege has received the Pinnacle Award from the Cape Girardeau County Board of Realtors. Helwege won the award by exceeding $5 million in production in 2003.
Century 21 Heartland recognized for service
Century 21 Heartland was recently recognized with a number of accolades. The Cape Girardeau office recently won the Century 21 National Quality Service Award and the Gold Medallion national award for sales production. In addition, the office's Heartland sales team won the Centurion Team Award for outstanding production. Members of that team are Larry Cunningham, Dee Dee Dockins, Michelle Doughten, Susan Grant, Candi Hill, Tony Lape, Leslie Leimbach, Phyllis Seabaugh and Denise Stover. Also, Doughten was recognized individually as a quality service provider.
