Swan nominated for higher education board
Kathy Swan of Cape Girardeau has been nominated for a seat on the Missouri Coordinating Board for Higher Education.
Swan, 52, is president of Johnson Communication Services Inc. in Cape Girardeau. She was formerly the vice president of the Cape Girardeau School Board and currently serves on the Missouri Business Education Roundtable.
Swan has been awarded the American Cancer Society Volunteer of the Year and the Vision 2000 Award of Distinction. She earned an associate's and bachelor's degree from Southeast Missouri State University.
The Missouri Coordinating Board for Higher Education's mission is to foster a thriving system of quality higher education. The board employs a commissioner to serve as its chief executive officer and carry out its goals and administrative responsibilities for coordinating the state system of higher education, which includes 13 public four-year colleges and universities, 17 public two-year community colleges, one public two-year technical college, 25 independent colleges and universities, 120 proprietary schools and 39 specialized independent schools and colleges and theological institutions.
Commercial Mail's Haley completes training
John Haley of Commercial Mail Services Inc. has completed the U.S. Postal Services quality control training and passed the special qualifying examination. The U.S. Postal Service now recognizes Haley as the certified quality control specialist for Commercial Mail Services.
Commercial Mail Services Inc., at 760 S. Kingshighway Suite H in Cape Girardeau, is a full-service mailing company specializing in postage discounts, bulk mail and USPS regulations. Haley has been with CMS for two years and is the acting director of operations.
Jackson woman nominated for award
Dorris Jean Seabaugh of Jackson has been nominated for an Older Worker of the Year Award. The Workforce Investment Board of Southeast Missouri announced that the Missouri Senior Employment Coordinating Committee is placing Seabaugh in the running for the contest, in its 13th year. Statewide recognition events are planned for April in Jefferson City, Mo.
Seabaugh, 80, is described as epitomizing the "Greatest Generation," with a strong work ethic. While her husband served in World War II, Seabaugh was working at International Shoe in Cape Girardeau producing goods to support the war effort. She also worked later as clerk in the probate court and at the family business in Jackson. She now works at Wal-Mart as an associate in the jewelry department.
Three earn certification in telephone system
Kim King, Dave Kirchdoerfer and Duane Statler of Innovative Idea Integration in Jackson recently earned vendor certification for the 3Com NBX "voice over IP" telephone system.
The system enhances productivity with advanced, business-class telephony features, including voice mail and automated attendants.
3Com is a provider of networking products for enterprises of all sizes and public sector organizations. 3Com is also a leader in providing Internet protocol service platforms and access infrastructure for network service providers.
Innovative Idea Integration was founded in 1994 to provide information systems services to a range of clients. Services include computer hardware, networking, consulting, software development, training and software implementation services for clients engaged in manufacturing, education, distribution, construction and finance.
Area corn producers honored in yield contest
Area corn growers have been named state winners in the 2002 National Corn Yield Contest, sponsored by the National Corn Growers Association.
Charles W. Hinkebein of Chaffee, Mo., placed third in the state in the irrigated class with a yield of 241.4896 bushels per acre.
Glenda H. Hinkebein of Chaffee placed first in the state in the no till/strip till irrigated class with a yield of 246.1181 bushels per acre.
Matthew Cox of Scott City placed first in the state in the irrigated class with a yield of 260.7761 bushels per acre.
Paul Lanpher of Advance, Mo., placed second in the state in irrigated class with a yield of 249.9187 bushels per acre.
