SEMO Port Railroad has moved its first carload of materials in conjunction with the Southern Pacific Railroad, aka Cotton Belt.
The boxcar was loaded with 70 tons of specialty chemical powder in 2,500-pound bags, moving them from QC Corporation on Nash Road en route to a customer in California.
The large bags of ferrous sulfate were loaded on three flatbed trucks and moved to the Southeast Missouri Regional Port, where Girardeau Stevadors loaded the railroad cars. Buck Williams, QC plant manager, and Tommy Kiser, plant supervisor, supervised the truck move and railcar loading.
SEMO Port Railroad has moved 18 carloads prior to this in conjunction with Union Pacific or Burlington Northern Railroads. The addition of rail service with Southern Pacific brings three railroads to customers located at the port and along its rail line. Other industries in the region can also utilize the rail services by transferring loads at the port, noted Don Overbey, executive director.
