Major Custom Cable is expanding.

The company that makes cables for computers has announced plans for a new manufacturing facility near Routes 61 and 177 at Fruitland.

Groundwork is under way for a 15,000-square-foot building, noted Phyllis Lorenz, an owner of the 6-year-old company.

Lorenz and John Johannes founded the company, which has grown every year.

The firm hopes to be in the new facility next summer.

The company currently operates from two facilities that combine for about 11,000 square feet, at Cape Girardeau and Altenburg.

"We'll be consolidating the new locations at Fruitland," said Lorenz.

Major Custom Cable currently employs 70 people. That will increase by at least 30 more workers once it moves to its new facility.
