POPLAR BLUFF -- Rusty Corzine and Chad Montague have been making music together for more than 15 years. Now, with the opening and recent expansion of their recording studio, drop17studio, these old friends want to help promote other local musicians.

"Chad and I have been playing music off and on since 1986. We've always been around music," Corzine said. "We've listened to others recording and always thought we could do better than that."

Drop17studio is a state-of-the-art digital recording studio at 802 County Road 526, about one mile down W Highway.

"We also do Web site design and graphic arts. We can design the CD and the whole CD cover. A band can do the whole project with us and when they are done -- we give them the CD all wrapped in plastic like you'd get in a store," said Corzine.

The recording studio equipment includes Mackie, Korg, Lexicon, Dbx, Alesis, AKG, Samson, Shure, DOD and ART. Digital recording is captured on the five digital adats and mixed back through a Mackie console. Then it is mixed down to a two-track master compact disc, and transferred to a PC to add sound effects and special effects -- everything from screams to breaking glass -- as needed.

Next comes the mastering -- the music can be edited with some compression, equalization, fade outs and more. With the final edits, the final master CD is ready for duplication.

"We cater to all kinds of music -- rock, pop, Christian," Corzine said. "We can do full band projects to ad jingles."

Corzine and Montague say their goal in starting the recording studio is to promote the local music scene. To further that goal, they are currently looking for new talent for their new record label, Spider Queen Records.
