Southeast Missouri's gas prices fell midway between the state's highest and lowest, while the state itself continues a run of having some of the nation's cheapest fuel.

Drivers pull into the Phillips 66 station Friday, July 12, at 2505 Veterans Memorial Drive in Cape Girardeau. Its prices were on the city's higher end that day, though fuel prices in Southeast Missouri remain far cheaper than in other parts of the state such as the St. Louis suburbs and along the Missouri River.

Missouri continues to have some of the lowest gas prices in the country following the Fourth of July weekend.

With a regular gasoline average of $3.18 per gallon and a diesel average of $3.50 per gallon, its prices fall far below the national averages of $3.52 and $3.86 per gallon for the same products.

Southeast Missouri features an average representation of gasoline prices in the state, falling midway between the higher prices of St. Louis and its suburbs and the sub-$3 costs of Springfield and Southwest Missouri.

Only seven states have, on average, cheaper unleaded gasoline prices than Missouri. All of them either border the Show Me State or are to the south of it, with Mississippi’s average of $3.01 per gallon the nation’s cheapest. The highest gasoline prices may be found in California, with an average unleaded price of $4.75 a gallon.
