The Cape Girardeau Area Chamber of Commerce is accepting applications for the 2008 Leadership Cape Girardeau class. The seven-month program develops leadership by exposing applicants to the opportunities, challenges and realities of the community. Applications will be accepted at the chamber offices, 1267 N. Mount Auburn Road, until Nov. 27.

Library breaks ground today for expansion

The Cape Girardeau Public Library will have a groundbreaking at 10:30 a.m. today for the expansion and renovation project approved by voters last February. The ceremony will be at 711 N. Clark St. During construction, the library is open at a temporary location at 301 S. Broadview St.

Extension to counsel on government contracts

The University of Missouri Extension Service will hold a counseling session today to help small businesses understand how to obtain federal government contracts and other issues relating to working with the government. The sessions, at the extension offices at 684 W. Jackson Trail in Jackson, will be by appointment. Call 243-3581 for more information or to make an appointment.

Send in educator of the year nominations

The Cape Girardeau Area Chamber of Commerce is accepting nominations for the 15th annual Educator of the Year award. Nominations will be accepted in writing at the chamber offices, 1267 N. Mount Auburn Road, until Dec. 7, or online at the chamber's Web site, www.capechamber.com.
