HOTELS LARGEST EMPLOYER FOR CITY

Mid-America Hotels, which includes restaurants, construction, administration and hotel workers, including the Holiday Inn and Victorian Inn in Cape Girardeau, continues to head the list of "Top 15" employers in Cape Girardeau.

In compiling top employers, the Southest Missourian consulted with the Directory of Manufacturing and Basic Industry for Missouri, the Directory for Southeast Missouri Region, and a number of businesses on the list.

The largest employer in the city is Mid-America Motel Corp., headquartered here. Mid-America includes motels, restaurants, construction and administration workers in a number of locations.

The company employs about 1,850 workers.

Second and third on the list are medical facilities. Southeast Missouri Hospital employs 1,554 workers and St. Francis Medical Center has 2,387.

Others in the top five are Southeast Missouri State University, at 1,100, and Thorngate Ltd., a manufacturer of sportswear, at 450.
