POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. -- Sara Brown, a family nurse practitioner, joined Tinsley Medical Clinic in Poplar Bluff and is now accepting new patients.

__JACKSON MANOR RECEIVES ACCREDITATION__

Jackson Manor nursing home in Jackson received Providigm's Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement Accreditation, according to a news release from the nursing home. Facilities must conduct comprehensive and continuous coverage of care for nursing-home residents to earn accreditation, the release stated. A quarterly review assesses information on residents, families, staff, records and observations, and the information allows the nursing home to monitor the quality of services it provides to the community, according to the release. Marla Baughman is the administrator at the home.

Dr. Michael Givens, a chiropractor in Cape Girardeau, was certified by the Missouri Division of Professional Registration to perform insurance consulting and peer reviews in Missouri. He can provide independent medical exams, review documentation and ensure medical guidelines have been followed, according to a news release from Givens' office. Givens has been in practice for 16 years and is certified in whiplash treatment, acupuncture and as a DOT medical examiner.

__LOCAL MEDICAL PROS ATTEND HIV CONFERENCE__

Staff of Broadway Prescription Shop in Cape Girardeau, along with an area doctor and a public health nurse, attended the "2015 HIV Update: Contemporary Issues in Management and Viral Hepatitis Symposium" in Boston. The symposium, according to a news release from the pharmacy, provides education on the latest developments in clinical care for HIV, with special focus on co-infections with hepatitis B and/or C, and is designed to foster integration of aspects for HIV care. The symposium is offered by Harvard Medical School and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. Attending were Melissa Hoehne, pharmacy technician, and Stephanie Rogers, marketing director and pharmacy technician, both of Broadway Prescription Shop; Dr. Brenna Keller, an infectious disease specialist who treats HIV and viral hepatitis in Southeast Missouri; and Lindsay Craft, communicable disease coordinator at the Cape Girardeau County Public Health Center. The pharmacy has a specialty care program that helps HIV and viral hepatitis patients get medications quickly and at the lowest possible prices, and provides prior authorization and compliance support to medical professionals, the release stated.

__FARMINGTON HOSPITALS CONSOLIDATE WOMEN, INFANTS SERVICES__

FARMINGTON, Mo. -- Parkland Health Center on Liberty Street and Parkland Health Center on Weber Road in Farmington have consolidated obstetrics services to Parkland Health Center on Liberty Street, effective June 12, the Park Hills Daily Journal reported. According to a news release from BJC HealthCare, a single program will benefit the region's families by concentrating obstetrics expertise in one location, positioning Parkland Health Center for other future growth in women and infants services, including care of newborns with higher-level needs. With two new obstetricians joining the staff this summer, the obstetrics service will be staffed by five obstetricians and two family physicians. Pediatric and nursery coverage will be provided by four pediatricians and two family physicians.

__RUSSELL NAMED TOP PHYSICAL THERAPIST__

POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. -- Sascha Russell, a physical therapist at Midwest Therapy Services in Poplar Bluff, was named "Physical Therapist of the 2015-2016 Year in Poplar Bluff" by Worldwide Leaders in Healthcare, the Daily American Republic reported. Russell graduated from Washington University with a doctorate in physical therapy and has worked at the local company since 2010.

POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. -- A ribbon cutting was held recently to open the Bone and Joint Center at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.

Dr. Alan Jones joined the dental staff at Cross Trails Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. He joins the dental team of Drs. Louis Rohlfs, Leigh Wilson and Christine Schoolman to provide general dental services to the community.

__NOGUERA NAMED ASSISTANT MEDICAL DIRECTOR__

FARMINGTON, Mo. -- Dr. Solomon Noguera joined Serenity HospiceCare as assistant medical director. He is a primary care physician and hospitalist and most recently worked as a primary care physician at Millennium Medical in Festus, Missouri, a hospitalist at St. Anthony's Hospital in St. Louis and a hospitalist at Ste. Genevieve County Memorial Hospital in Ste. Genevieve, Missouri. He also sees patients at Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Crystal City, Missouri; Missouri Baptist Medical Center in St. Louis; and St. John's Mercy Hospital in St. Louis.

__JONES RETIRES FROM BOOTHEEL COUNSELING, REPLACEMENT NAMED__

SIKESTON, Mo. -- Cheryl Jones, executive director of Bootheel Counseling Services, retired June 22 after 30 years of employment at the agency. David Terrell, who has been director of the agency's community psychiatric rehabilitation program since 2006, has assumed the role of executive director. He has worked at Bootheel Counseling since 1992.

__QAISRANI JOINS COMMUNITY COUNSELING CENTER__

STE. GENEVIEVE, Mo. -- Dr. Asif Qaisrani joined the Community Counseling Center's Ste. Genevieve office on June 12. He provides psychiatric services on Fridays and Saturdays for adults and children in Ste. Genevieve, according to a news release.

__LUTHERAN HOME WELCOMES NEW ADMINISTRATOR__

The Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau added Teresa Brown, a registered nurse, as the new administrator. She will oversee all aspects of the organization's skilled nursing care, home health, hospice, adult day care, memory care and outpatient rehabilitation services, according to a news release. Brown, a Cape Girardeau native, has more than 20 years of nursing experience. She previously oversaw quality control and regulatory processes for a multifacility health system in Southwest Missouri.

__PREGNANCY RESOURCE CENTER OPENS IN SIKESTON__

SIKESTON, Mo. -- A ribbon cutting and open house were held July 10 for The Pregnancy Resource Center, 918 S. Kingshighway in Sikeston.

__HAMRA RETIRES FROM MEDICAP PHARMACY__

SIKESTON, Mo. -- Ronnie Hamra retired after 40 years in the pharmacy business, the Sikeston Standard Democrat reported. He grew up in Portageville, Missouri, and worked at Missouri Delta Medical Center for 17 years before opening and operating Medicap Pharmacy in Sikeston for the past 23 years. Hamra has sold the pharmacy to Mike Tullis, who has renamed it Sikeston's Medicenter Pharmacy.

__PERRY COUNTY HOSPITAL TO BEGIN EXPANSION, RENOVATION__

PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Perry County Memorial Hospital's board of directors and trustees have authorized the plan to begin a campus medical office and retail pharmacy expansion and renovation, according to a news release. The project team will include Robinson Construction of Perryville under contract with PCMH as the construction manager, and Christner Inc. of St. Louis as the architect. Several other firms, including Baer Engineering of Perryville and KJWW Engineering of St. Louis, have contributed to the planning. Principal elements of the project include a new 4,400-square foot space for Prescriptions Plus Pharmacy, including a drive-thru and robotic prescription filling equipment; a new 2,800-square-foot space for a medical oncology and infusion clinic; and the gutting and renovation of approximately 11,000 square feet of medial office space. The project is expected to begin in July with three distinct phases, and will take 16 to 18 months to complete.
