PARK HILLS, Mo. -- Dave Daniels was Star Service Team Member for April at Parkland Health Center. Daniels, a radiology technologist at Parkland for eight years, works primarily in the radiology department at Parkland Health Center in Bonne Terre, Mo. LPN Stephanie Hays was Star Service Team Member for May at Parkland. Hays began her nursing career in 1989 at Bonne Terre Hospital, a predecessor of Parkland, and continued at Parkland when it formed in 1992. She has been a nurse in the emergency department since 1994 and also serves as clinical review nurse for Parkland's radiology department.

SMITH TO BE PERMANENT PRESIDENT, CEO

Wayne Smith was named president and CEO at SoutheastHEALTH, a position he's been filling on an interim basis since last summer. Southeast Hospital Board of Trustees chairman A.M. Spradling III made the announcement May 4. Smith replaces Debbie Linnes, who left in June 2011. Due to Smith's job performance, no formal search for a new CEO was conducted, said Sally Owen, hospital spokeswoman. The decision was made at the board's April meeting. Smith joined Southeast in September 2010 as vice president of human resources and development. He previously worked in a similar capacity at Saint Francis Medical Center after working as Southeast Missouri State University's vice president of advancement.

DATA CENTER NOW OPEN IN CAPE

Officials from SoutheastHEALTH and Missouri Delta Medical Center held a ribbon cutting May 10 to mark the opening of their Servir Data Center at 623 S. Silver Springs Road. Servir is a joint program designed to help hospitals and physician offices meet new federal electronic medical records requirements. The goal is to improve quality, reduce health care costs and provide a comprehensive system of care through the use of technology, says Mike Dozier, regional information officer for SoutheastHEALTH. The data center houses a new networking and data storage system. It also is home to Southeast's Information Systems Department and includes two training rooms with a total of 38 computers.

SOUTHEAST ADDS DIRECTOR OF EDUCATION, DEVELOPMENT

Dr. James M. Roman of Frisco, Texas, joined SoutheastHEALTH as director of education and organizational development on May 21. Roman, who served as training director for North Texas Financial Group for four years, has more than a decade of experience in education and training for major businesses, including health systems. In his new position, Roman will focus on providing health care education for employees, patients and the community; provide expertise in planning and development of leadership and professional development programs for the board, leadership and staff; and coordinate a succession planning model for all levels of SoutheastHEALTH.

MEANS NAMED CHIEF MEDICAL OFFICER

Dr. Dennis E. Means is the new chief medical officer at SoutheastHEALTH. Dr. Robert Sarama served as interim chief medical officer while a search was conducted for a permanent chief medical officer. Means will begin work at Southeast by mid-June. He has been affiliated with the Carilion Clinic, New River Valley Campus, in Christiansburg, Va., since 2007, serving as vice president of medical affairs. He also served as assistant dean for diversity at Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine in Roanoke, Va. Means is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology.

SOUTHEAST RECOGNIZED BY HEART ASSOCIATION

SoutheastHEALTH was recognized as a Platinum-Level Fit-Friendly Company by the American Heart Association for helping employees eat better and move more. Platinum-level employers offer physical activity options in the workplace; increase healthy eating options at the worksite; promote a wellness culture; implement at least nine criteria outlined by the AHA in the areas of physical activity, nutrition and culture; and demonstrate measurable outcomes related to workplace wellness.

SOUTHEAST RANKS AMONG NATION'S BEST

Southeast Hospital ranks among the top 5 percent of hospitals nationwide for patient care, earning the 2012 Outstanding Patient Experience Award and the 2012 Patient Safety Excellence Award from HealthGrades.

This is the fourth consecutive year that Southeast has earned the Outstanding Patient Experience Award. The Patient Safety Excellence Award ranks Southeast among the best-performing hospitals nationwide -- one of only 263 -- in patient safety. The Patient Experience Award is based on patient satisfaction data from more than 3,800 hospitals nationwide. This year HealthGrades paid particular attention on the impact that patient-provider communication had on patient experience.

CROWE AWARDED FOR RADIOLOGY CONTRIBUTIONS

Missouri native Dr. John K. Crowe received the gold medal award from the American Roentgen Ray Society at its annual meeting in Vancouver, Canada. The gold medal is the society's highest honor awarded to recipients for distinguished service to radiology. His committee service to the society began in 1989 and ended as past president in 2009. He is a trustee of the American Board of Radiology and holds academic positions at the University of Arizona College of Medicine, Gateway Community College and Yale University School of Medicine. Crowe is one of the founding members of Scottsdale Medical Imaging Ltd.

WOODS COMPLETES COMPOUNDING TRAINING

Kevin Wood, pharmacist at Broadway Pharmacy in Cape Girardeau, completed advanced compounding training at the American College of Apothecaries in Bartlett, Tenn. He specializes in compounding, the pharmacy method of preparing medications to meet unique prescriber and patient needs.

MISSOURI DELTA PARTNERS WITH PROVIDER PLUS

SIKESTON, Mo. -- Missouri Delta Medical Center has partnered with Provider Plus Inc., a full-service medical equipment company. Provider Plus became the supplier of respiratory equipment, durable medical equipment and supplies for Missouri Delta Medical Equipment and their patients on June 1. Provider Plus Inc. is at 102 Smith St., next to Continu-Care Home Health Services, and includes a retail showroom that is open Monday through Friday. Missouri Delta Medical Equipment customer service representatives are managing the central intake process at 1008 N. Main St. The new phone number for the Missouri Delta Medical Equipment Central Intake Department is 573-472-6016.
