MOORE IS CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER
Sylvia (Sly) Moore was appointed chief operating officer at Southeast Missouri Hospital. She has been serving as interim COO for the past six months. A primary focus for Moore this year is overseeing construction of the hospital's Regional Cancer Center on the West Campus. Other administrative duties include clinical services, human resources, information services, HealthPoint and related enterprises, environmental safety, maintenance and engineering, food service, inpatient physical therapy and physical, speech and occupational therapy. The COO position was created earlier this year as part of a reorganization of executive roles at Southeast.
GUETHLE EARNS CDT CERTIFICATION
DEXTER, Mo. -- Sarah Guethle, occupational therapist at Missouri Southern Healthcare, earned complete decongestive therapy certification in lymphatic therapy. CDT is the most successful treatment for chronic extremity lymphedema. Guethle completed her training at Norton School of Lymphatic Therapy in Durham, N.C.
URGENT CARE CLINIC OPENS IN CAPE
Doctors Express, a new urgent care franchise, opened July 17 at 465 S. Mount Auburn Road, Suite 103, Cape Girardeau. Dr. Julia Pewitt Kinder and her staff hope to eliminate long waits experienced at other doctor's offices and emergency rooms. Other doctors on staff include Dr. Bernie Ranchero and Dr. Kevin Martin.
DR. SINASA CLOSES PRACTICE
KENNETT, Mo. -- Dr. Surat Sinasa announced the closure of his Teaco Road medical practice as of July 30. He has lived and worked in Kennett for the past 34 years.
THREE ACCEPTED TO LPN PROGRAM
DEXTER, Mo. -- Allison Mick, Dialina Morgan and Sara Davis were accepted into the LPN program at Sikeston Career and Technology Center. All three women are certified medical aides at Central Gardens Residential Care in Dexter. Of 288 people who took the qualifying exams, only 41 were accepted.
SAINT FRANCIS ANNOUNCES NEW PRACTICE PARTNER
Saint Francis Medical Center recently announced its newest physician practice partner, Cape Neurology Specialists. Fellowship-trained neurologist Andrew Godbey, MD, MPH, leads the newly formed practice, which provides diagnosis and treatment for complicated disorders and injuries of the brain and nervous system. Cape Neurology Specialists opened July 19 at 3004 Gordonville Road, just east of the Saint Francis campus in Cape Girardeau.

SAINT FRANCIS WELCOMES NEW HOSPITALIST
Saint Francis Medical Center recently welcomed hospitalist Nelson N. Aldana, MD. He joins nine other hospitalists at the medical center in caring for inpatients. Aldana, an internal medicine physician, has special clinical interests in intensive care settings and thyroid disease and disorders.
NEW BEGINNINGS HOLDS RIBBON CUTTING
DEXTER, Mo. -- The Dexter Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting July 7 at New Beginnings, a new assisted living center at 13134 Highway 25. The facility is owned by Benchmark Healthcare Co., which has several other facilities in Southeast Missouri. Bo Catrino is administrator for New Beginnings.
PARKLAND HEALTH HONORS EMPLOYEES
FARMINGTON, Mo. -- Kathy Ferguson, RN, BSN, nurse manager of the Parkland Emergency Department, was named Leader of the Year at Parkland Health Center's Annual Employee Banquet. The award honors a member of the management team who consistently projects excellent leadership. Sue Webb, RN, is Parkland's Star Service Employee of the Year. This award recognizes an employee who consistently projects the hospital's Journey to Excellence values of compassion, optimism, integrity and loyalty. Additionally, five employees were honored as Journey to Excellence Recipients: Pamela Finerson, Jada Holbert, Regina Hulsey, Stephanie Johnson and Joyce Stam.
MEDICAL CENTER RENOVATES NURSES STATION
FARMINGTON, Mo. -- Three months after opening Mineral Area Behavioral Health Unit, the hospital has opened a newly renovated nurses station, featuring a new call system that allows for immediate response. The renovation is part of ongoing improvements that Capella Healthcare, the parent company of Mineral Area Regional Medical Center, is making to the hospital. More improvements are planned for later in 2010 and 2011.
LUTES ELECTED NURSE ASSOCIATION PRESIDENT
Diane Lutes of Jackson was elected president of the Missouri Association of Licensed Practical Nurses. Lutes, who has been a nurse for more than 20 years, was elected at the 62nd annual convention of the organization, held in June. The organization represents 24,000 LPNs in Missouri.
WILLEY JOINS CAPE PHYSICIAN ASSOCIATES
Saint Francis Medical Center recently welcomed board certified internal medicine physician Jay D. Willey, MD, to the medical staff. He joins Cape Physician Associates, a primary care practice staffed by 11 other physicians. Willey has practiced for more than 20 years. He provides routine checkups, tests and treatments, and referrals to skilled specialists when appropriate. He focuses on preventive care and lifelong wellness, but also helps patients with chronic conditions
