Johnson started his career in electrical and telecommunications distribution in 1987. He joined Cape Electric in 1991, serving as western Kentucky regional manager and central purchasing manager.
In 1997, he was appointed as data telecom product specialist with the company.
Johnson is a graduate of Cape Central High School and Southeast Missouri State University.
