The Southeast Missourian Circulation Department recently won three awards at the 1996 Newspaper Association of America (NAA) Marketing Conference.

The department was first-place winner in the Circulation Promotion Award/Creative Champion in Sales Promotion with its Independent Contractor Sales Promotion Contest. It also received a top award for a Classified Advertising Subscription Promotion.

The department received an "Award of Merit" for its "One Hot Offer," a special three-hour sales promotion.

"These were all team effort promotions," said Mark Kneer, director of the Southeast Missourian Circulation and Marketing Department.

Involved in the promotions were Joyce Hunter, sales and customer relations manager, and Teresa Connell, assistant advertising director, who helped in promotion designs.

The contest for contractors involved special gloves.

"We sent out a number of right-hand gloves," said Kneer. "The gloves for the left hand (normally the throwing arm from a moving vehicle) had to be earned by subscription sales."

Pat Mungle, Susan Elayer, Jo Rogers, Mary Slinkard and Connie Litzelfelner were all involved in the circulation promotion award.
