Elizabeth "Beth" Schmucker of Cape Girardeau, president of Regional Social Scene, Ltd., recently attended the Governor's Economic Summit on Women in Business, held at the Holiday Inn Select Expo Center in Columbia.
Aida Alvarez, administrator of the U.S. Small Business Administration; Missouri Treasurer Bob Holden; and Rebecca McDowell Cook, Missouri Secretary of State, were among feature speakers at the conference.
Schmucker also attended a number of seminars, where she shared her experiences as a new business owner with other women from around the state. Schmucker founded her business in January.
Two awards were presented at the summit: Rose Kemp, U. S. Department of Labor Women's Bureau Regional Administrator, received an award bearing her name, the Rose Kemp Public Service Award, created this year by the Missouri Women's Council to recognize a Missouri woman who has served in the public arena and contributed to the advancement of the status of women. Alise Martiny of Operative Plasterers & Cement Masons, Local 518, Kansas, won the 2000 Award of Distinction.
