Dr. Kenneth W. Retter, a Cape Girardeau cardiologist, was inducted as a Fellow in the American College of Cardiology during the group's annual meeting in New Orleans recently.
Designation as a fellow indicated the successful completion of board certification and recognition for high professional achievement in the treatment of cardiovascular diseases.
Retter is associated with Cardiovascular Consultants of Cape Girardeau and is a member of the medical staffs of Southeast Missouri Hospital and St. Francis Medical Center.
Terry Miederhoff, Cape Girardeau County Farm Bureau insurance agent, has achieved membership in the Missouri Farm Bureau Life Insurance Co.'s "Million Dollar Club."
Miederhoff received the award during a recent conference at the Capitol Plaza Hotel in Jefferson City.
Rhonda G. Ruark, training specialist for TG(U.S.A.) Corp. of Perryville, has earned certification as a Professional in Human Resources (PHR).
The certification is awarded by the Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI).
To be certified as a PHR, an applicant must have four years of professional human resource-level experience and pass a comprehensive examination. Ruark completed her test at the University of Missouri-St. Louis.
Dr. Richard L. Kies, a Cape Girardeau ophthalmologist and surgeon, recently completed an advanced training session on new cataract surgery techniques.
Cataract and glaucoma specialist David W. Langerman conducted the workshop in Orangeburg, N.Y.
The new technique, said Kies, who operates an office at 1429 Mount Auburn, offers less chance of eye infection, fewer complications and gives eye patients ability to resume normal physical activity following cataract surgery.
Dr. Charles P. McGinty, assistant and medical director with Southeast Hospice, a service of Southeast Missouri Hospital, recently attended a seminar at St. Louis, presented by the Academy of Hospice Physicians.
The topic of the conference was "For Your Patient in the End Stage of Disease -- What are the Options of Care?" explored the growing trend of hospice care and the physical, spiritual and emotional support in can give terminally ill patients.
The Southeast Hospital hospice program was originated in 1986 and serves seven counties.
Martha J. Brown has joined Coldwell Banker Hamilton Realty.
Brown has been involved in real-estate sales in Cape Girardeau for more than two years, and has been a member of the Million Dollar Club two years.
She served as secretary for the Cape Girardeau Board of Realtors in 1994, and is currently treasurer of the Multiple Listing Service in Cape Girardeau.
Sheila Irvin has been appointed as the official court reporter for Division I of the 32nd Judicial Circuit.
Presiding Judge William L. Syler announced Irvin's appointment recently. Irvin replaces Sue Roger, who retired March 31, after 21 years.
Irvin is a certified court reporter and has been employed as a free-lance court reporter in the St. Louis area. She has more than 10 years experience as a court reporter.
John Mehner, president of the Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce, has been named as a participant in Leadership Missouri.
The program, designed to help business and civic leaders better understand the operations of Missouri government as well as concerns and goals of the state's elected and appointed officials, is a seven-month leadership enhancement program.
Program sessions are held each month for seven months, starting this month. Each session is conducted in a different Missouri city and focuses on a specific topic. The program is sponsored by the Missouri Chamber of Commerce.
Janet Boyer, senior hair designer at the J.C. Penney Co. Inc. Styling Salon at West Park Mall, has been selected as the 1994 "Top All Star" in the Kansas City Metro District.
The award is based on sales produced in 1994. Boyer was the top producer of the district's 285 hair designers.
She has been an associate at the local salon since September 1985.
Christopher S. Liley of Liley Monument Works of Marble Hill has completed qualifications and examination to become a certified memorialist (C.M.).
The designation is awarded by Monument Buildings of North America (MBNA).
The examination extensively covers the history, technology and techniques of the monument trade. In addition to the written test, a candidate must have compiled 50 points by participating in a wide range of activities related to the industry.
Smith and Co. of Poplar Bluff has added two environmental specialists, Glenn G. Scherer and Gary Lalumandier, to its staff. Scherer, formerly of Burns and McDonnell Waste Consultants Inc. of St. Louis, has joined the firm as chief of Environmental Services. Scherer, a Scott County native, holds a bachelor of science degree in geology from Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau and a master's degree in geology from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville.
Lalumandier of Bloomsdale is a recent graduate of the University of Missouri-Rolla. He holds a bachelor's degree in geological engineering. He has experience with Fugro Midwest Inc. as an environmental engineering intern.
Kenneth Trentham of Marble Hill has completed a course in auctioneering and auction sales management at the Missouri Auction School in Kansas City.
He recently received his diploma and the honorary title of colonel. During the nine-day school, he attended lectures and workshops and participant in selling at a number of public auctions.
Dorothy V. Pirtle has announced her retirement from Tip of Illinois Health Services. She was honored Friday during a special open house held at the Olive Branch Tip office.
Pirtle, who joined Tip in 1980 as a home health aide at Cairo, transferred to the Olive Branch office last year.
Tip serves the lower 26 Southern Illinois counties.
Mike Morgan of Jonesboro, Ill., a driver for Heartland Express Inc. of Iowa, recently received an annual safety award from the company, headquartered at Coralville, Iowa, for 12 months of accident-free driving.
