Shirley Ramsey, executive coordinator of the Community Caring Council, has attended a weeklong training session at St. Louis Kenrick Center.
Topic of the meeting, sponsored by University of Missouri Extension Teaching, was "Community Development Academy: Building Communities from the Grassroots," an ongoing community-based development curriculum.
The purpose of the course is to help understand that technology, demographics and lifestyles are changing and enable participants to find way to adapt and compete in a fast-paced world.
Dr. Charles E. DeFelica of Cape Girardeau has received the Physicians Recognition Award from the American Medical Association for continued medical educaiton. Physicians receive the award for accumulating 150 hours of continuing education over a three-year period.
DeFelice, a board certified cardiologist and internist with Cape Girardeau Physician Associates, 14 Doctors' Park, is a graduate of the University of Maryland Medical School at Baltimore.
Kelley D. Reeves, a speech pathologist at St. Francis Medical Center, has received an award for continuing educaiton.
The award was granted by the Continuing Education Board of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
Some Dana Corp. Cape Girardeau facility employees have attended a Fundamentals of Supervision II Class, presented by the Dana University Business School.
Attending the school were Donna Ross, Tim Wheetley, Art Didion, Terry Taylor, Myra Eichhorn, Lisa Maurer, Billy Simmons, Bob Cosby, Peggy Vann, Larry Koehler, Larry Tidd, Mark Goben, Brenda Lair, Tracy Loughary, Janet Schwitiz and Bob Flesher.
The class is designed to help people develop skills in listening, decision making, motivation concepts and working with others.
Lowell Mohler, former secretary and chief administrative officer for the Missouri Farm Bureau, has been named new chairman of the Missouri State Fair Commission .
Mohler has served as vice chairman of the board. Jerry Divin of Bolivar was elected to the vice chairman's seat. Divin is general manager of Southwest Electric Cooperative.
Other members of the Fair Commission are Ida Cox, Platte City; Norwood Creason, Braymer; Larry Foster, Sedalia; Brenda Lampton, Greenwood; Betty Linke, Troy; and Sean McGinnis, Springfield.
Gary D. Slater is Missouri State Fair director.
Comer Phillips, an engineering technician with the Illinois Department of Transportation, has been named "Engineering Technician of the Year" by IDOT.
Phillips of Cairo has been employed with IDOT for 32 years and has been involved with the building for more than 40 bridges during his career.
Phillips is the resident technician on a seismic retrofit project of the Interstate 57 bridge crossing Illinois Route 51 near Mounds.
Carolyn and Dennis Kempf of Elite Travel Inc. have attended a familiarization cruise and tour. They toured Blue Lagoon Island, Crystal Cay, which houses an underwater observatory, and areas in Nassau, during a three-night cruise aboard the SS Oceanbreeze.
