Burl Stamp Jr., formerly of Cape Girardeau, has been named president and chief executive officer for the Phoenix Children's Hospital.
Stamp, vice president of pediatric services development for BJC Health System in St. Louis, will leave BJC July 3, and report to his new duties at Phoenix Children's Hospital Aug. 3.
Stamp, a 1982 graduate of Southeast Missouri State University with majors in marketing and communications, began working for Children's Health Services in St. Louis in 1989. He has held several positions there. The facility became part of BJC in 1994. Stamp was an assistant product manager at Ralston Purina Co. before joining St. Louis Children's Hospital.
One of Stamp's duties at his new post will be to lead the effort to construct a building for the Phoenix children's Hospital. The 219-bed hospital now leases space for its inpatient services from Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in downtown Phoenix.
Stamp, who still has family in Cape Girardeau -- his mother is Mrs. Mary Ann Stamp -- was a 1996 recipient of the Donald L. Harrison College of Business award at Southeast. He has been active in alumni affairs at Southeast and is on the board of directors of the Southeast Missouri University Foundation.
Catherine A. White, a certified public accountant, recently passed the National Uniform CPA examination and completed additional requirements to receive her Missouri licenses as a CPA.
White is employed with Begley, Janssen, Young & Birk, LC., CPA's in Cape Girardeau and is a member of the Southeast Missouri Chapter of CPAs.
She previously worked in accounting in area retail, manufacturing and broadcast industries. She served as a volunteer income tax preparer with the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program.
Susan Stewart, James Wakin and John Coffman have joined St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
Stewart is director of marketing, planning and public relations. She has a master's degree in health services administration from the University of Michigan. She previously served as assistant vice president for marketing and planning in Terra Haute, Ind. Prior to that she was executive director of women's and children's services at St. Joseph's Care Group in South Bend, Ind. She served as Wabash Valley Chapter president of the American Marketing Association. She is an associate of the American College of Health Care Executives and a member of Alliance for Healthcare Strategy and Marketing.
Wakin, a registered nurse, has been appointed director for the medical areas. His areas of responsibilities include Cancercare, clinical and management responsibilities. He is relocated from Brownsville, Texas, where he was service leader for general and extended care for Columbia Valley Regional Medical Center.
Coffman is manager of housekeeping at St. Francis. He is graduate of the University of Missouri-Columbia, with a bachelor's degree in business administration. He previously served as housekeeping manager at Pattie A. Clay Hospital in Richmond, Ky. Prior to that, he operated Coffman Management Services, which provided housekeeping management services to healthcare facilities.
Heather Eledge has joined Special Effects Beauty Salon, 2532 William.
Eledge, a graduate of Stage One The Hair School in Cape Girardeau, has three years experience.
She previously worked with Regis Beauty Salon.
Kevin Crawford has joined Orthopaedic Associates of Southeast Missouri, P.C., 48 Doctors' Park, as financial manager.
He will be responsible for all accounts receivable, accounts payable, collections and payroll aspects of the corporation.
Crawford, a Cape Girardeau native, is a graduate of Southeast Missouri State University, with a degree in accounting, and has a master's degree in business administration from Ball State at Muncie, Ind.
He has five years experience in the finance and accounting field.
Tom Poteete has joined Mathes Motors, 1001 N. Kingshighway, as a sales representative.
Poteete of Cape Girardeau, a former automotive service consultant, has 10 years experience in automotive service. He previously worked with two major area dealerships.
Kyle L. Bastie has been certified as an orthotist, by the Orthotic Certification Program.
Bastie, of Cape Prostethics-Orthotics Inc., 44 Doctors' Park, evaluates, measures, designs and fits external orthotic devices or braces.
Drs. Walt Schroeder Jr. and Bill Stahr have an article published in the June edition of "Missouri Medicine.
The article, "Metastatic Basic Cell Cancer of the Auricle," was presented as a paper during the annual meeting of the Southern Medical Association. The article pointed out that basal cell cancer, the most common skin malignancy, can be treated with surgical excision. Some recurrent basal cell cancer, the article noted, can be spread to lymph nodes and demonstrate more aggressive behavior.
A number of Missouri business leaders attended the first-ever Congressional Small Business Summit, held in Washington recently.
The delegation will help develop a legislative agenda designed to foster economic growth and opportunity into the new millennium.
Attending the roundtable discussion were Jerry Dean Pullen and Troy Wilson, both of Sikeston, and Mary Hass Sheld of West Plains. The 19-person delegation met with Senate Small Business Committee chairman Kit Bond, R-Mo., House Business Committee chairman Jim Talent, R-Mo., Rep. Jo Ann Emerson, R-Mo., and Rep. Kenny Hulshof, R-Mo.
