The Missouri Lottery transferred $25.5 million to the Lottery Proceeds Fund on Friday, bringing the total amount given to education to more than $48.8 million so far in fiscal 2016.
The transfer of $25,266,761 is based on July sales, according to a news release from the Missouri Lottery.
In fiscal year 2014, the last year for which detailed numbers are available, Southeast Missouri State University received more than $4.4 from the Lottery for scholarships and other programs, according to molottery.com.
Overall, Cape Girardeau County received a total of more than $5.4 million -- $871,193 for programs through the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, and over $4.5 million for higher-education programs.
Lottery proceeds appropriated in fiscal 2015 amounted to over $174 million statewide for the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, nearly $128 million for the Missouri Department of Higher Education and $127,000 for the Missouri Department of Agriculture's Veterinary Student Loan Payment Fund, the website reported.
Programs funded by the Lottery in fiscal 2015 included the A+ Scholarship Program, the Foundation Program and Access Missouri, the release said.
A new franchise of Dunkin Donuts will be placed in the location that held Houch's Donuts on North Kingshighway.
Carl Ritter Jr., one of the franchise owners bringing the restaurant to Cape Girardeau, said in an email to the Southeast Missourian last week his group has bought the building at 1001 N. Kingshighway, and renovations will begin with in the next couple of months. A projected store opening is February or sooner, according to Ritter.
Isle of Capri Casinos Inc., the parent company of Isle Casino Cape Girardeau, last week announced it soon will close its Natchez, Mississippi, property, Isle Natchez.
Isle of Capri also has entered an agreement to sell its Natchez hotel and some related nongaming assets to Casino Holding Investment Partners, LLC, parent company of Magnolia Bluffs Casino, for $11.5 million, according to a news release,
Isle of Capri has 15 casino properties in seven states.
Skyview Animal Clinic in Cape Girardeau will close for a few days while the veterinary office and clinic will move to a new location.
The clinic at 883 S. Kingshighway will close at 5:30 p.m. Thursday and reopen at 7:30 a.m. Aug. 24 in a new building at 2139 Megan Drive in Cape Girardeau, according to a recent social media post by the clinic.
The University of Missouri Cape Girardeau County Extension Small Business Technology Development Center is offering a class to answer small-business owners' questions on how to manage more effectively or get financing for their business.
