A new bar and grill is opening in Gordonville.

Keith Quade and Scott Lindsay, masons by trade, remodeled the building that once housed West Side Bar and Grill and are preparing to open Trisha's Bar and Grill this month.

Quade and Lindsay agreed to name the bar in honor of Quade's late wife, who died suddenly from breast cancer. The couple had been married for 26 years.

Trisha was a bartender in Gordonville at Circle K in Gordonville when they met during the early 1980s. Quade, along with a partner, bought the bar and the couple courted, worked together and served as volunteer firefighters in the Gordonville Fire Department.

"I was an interior attack on a hose line, and she was a pump operator running the pump and running the water to me," Quade said. "That doesn't happen very often."

The couple married in 1985.

Quade continued his work as a mason, and his wife worked as a secretary for his masonry business and continued bartending. They dreamed of one day opening a bar together. But the dream ended when Trisha was diagnosed with breast cancer and died 19 days later.

At the time, she was bartending at Brothers in Cape Girardeau. The owners renamed the bar Trish's Place in her honor.

"I tried the best I could to buy the business from them, but I never could," Quade said. "I told myself if I ever get the opportunity to get a bar and a grill going, I'm going to get it, and I'm going to name it after her."

So Quade and his partner, Lindsay, are putting the finishing touches on Trisha's Bar and Grill. The owners rebuilt the kitchen and remodeled the bar. They built a menu around a masonry theme, featuring "build your own burgers" called Bricklayer Burgers, and followed the same idea with submarine sandwiches: Scaffold Subs. Quade said the restaurant will offer an all-day breakfast menu as well.

Quade said he has brought in six employees to run the bar and grill. Michelle McGuire, who is a secretary at Keith Quade Masonry on a part-time basis, will manage Trisha's.

"We were able to bring her on full-time," Quade said.

Trisha's will be open from 10 a.m. to midnight Monday through Thursday and from 10 a.m. to 1 a.m. Friday and Saturday.

Quade acknowledged the work of all involved in the project and said he looks forward to seeing his dream coming to fruition alongside Lindsay, McGuire and several other friends who will join him as he honors his late wife by opening the bar and grill they always dreamed of owning together.

"She was an awesome partner," Quade said. "I miss her every day."
