Alto Vineyards, located on Highway 127 near Alto Pass, Ill., received a dozen medals at the recent Great Lakes Wine Judging event.
More than 400 wines from 60 wineries, primarily from Illinois, Indiana, New York, Ohio, Wisconsin, Michigan and some Canada provinces, were entered in the competition.
Alto Vineyards received five gold medals, for its Chambourcin, Chancellor, Rosso Classico, Shawnee Gold and Heartland White. The winery also received six silver medals, and one bronze.
The winery has received a total of 207 medals in regional, national and international competition since it opened in 1989.
