Sales for the quarter totaled $4 billion, a 15 percent increase from $3.4 billion in the previous year.

Prescriptions accounted for 52.6 percent of company sales in the latest quarter.

Walgreen opened 97 drugstores in the quarter. The company operates 2,626 stores in 36 states and Puerto Rico, Walgreen's includes a store in Cape Girardeau.
