Union Planters Corp. reported record earnings for the second quarter.
Net earnings for the quarter were $105.8 million, up from the $79.4 million during the same period in 1998. Fully diluted earnings per common share for the quarter were 73 cents, up from the 56 cents a share during the same quarter a year ago.
Union Planters ended the quarter with assets of $32.3 billion, total loans of $20.2 billion and total deposits of $24.8 billion.
Net earnings for the first half of the year were $203.1 million, or $1.40 per diluted common share, up from $183.9 million, or $1.30 per share during the first six months of 1998.
Union Planters, headquartered at Memphis, Tenn., is a multi-state bank holding company with 860 banking facilities in 12 states, including Cape Girardeau.
