NationsBank made 1,178 SBA-guaranteed loans for about $114 million in 1997, an average of $95,000 a loan. The bank also was ranked as the No. 1 lender to small businesses by American Banker, with $7 billion in small business loans in 1997.

Rankings do not include loans made by the former Barnett Banks Inc., the largest SBA-guaranteed lender in Florida in 1997. Barnett was acquired by NationsBank in January.
