The Schaller Hardwood Lumber Co. of Poplar Bluff has been named "Small Business of the Year" by the Greater Poplar Bluff Area Chamber of Commerce.

Schaller Hardware was founded in 1960 at St. Louis by Fred L. Schaller near Highway 40 and Grand Boulevard.

When the company lost its site by the rapidly growing Barnes-Jewish Hospital, company officials looked for a new site and moved to Poplar Bluff.

The business has 18 buildings on 42 acres on two sites in Poplar Bluff and maintains offices and warehouses in Springfield and St. Louis.

The company, with 33 employees, delivers lumber within a 600-mile area from Poplar Bluff.

Bruce Ploetze is president, Denise Payne, vice president and Art Pleotze, director of the board.
