AmerenUE's Taum Sauk Hydroelectric Power Plant is back in service after shutting down last August for equipment upgrades and modernization.
The plant near Lesterville in Reynolds County returned to service July 1. However, the plant will remained closed to the public to allow completion of roadwork and renovation of the facility's popular nature museum.
The $25 million upgrade included installation of new "runners," the impeller that turns the plant's pump-turbines. Other work included installing new digital controls, replacing outdates equipment, repairing the 55-acre upper reservoir and a number of maintenance tests.
The plant was built in 1963.
The visitors' center and nature museum feature information on Missouri's birds, mammals, wildflowers and geology.
