About 2,900 workers who make underwear and other clothing are getting pink slips from Fruit of the Loom Inc. The Chicago-based company said recently it is shifting production to lower-cost plants overseas.
Fruit of the Loom previously cut more than 4,000 jobs over the last three months.
The company gave 60-day notices to 1,035 workers last week, at two plants in Kentucky and 1,873 at three plants in Louisiana.
Fruit of Loom said earlier this year it hoped to cut costs by $100 million over three years by moving 80 percent of its manufacturing abroad.
The company has increased sewing operations in Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean.
