D&K Wholesale Drug Inc., headquartered in St. Louis, has acquired 50 percent of Pharmaceutical Buyers Inc. of Boulder, Colo.
The acquisition agreement also gives Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Co. 30 percent of PBI and leaves 20 percent with the founders of the company, J. David McCay and Robert E. Korenblat.
McCay and Korenblat will continue as officers and directors of PBI and will continue to manage the company, a group purchasing organization.
PBI serves more than 2,200 members in 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. Its offices will remain in Boulder.
D&K Wholesale Drug is a full-service, regional wholesale distributor supplying customers from facilities in Cairo, Ill., Lexington, Ky., and Minneapolis, Minn. The company will move its Cairo operation to Cape Girardeau next year.
