The merger of the Gates Rubber Co. and the London-based Tomkins PLC is not expected to greatly affect either the company's national or local operations.
Sale arrangements have been completed in the $1.1 billion deal, and final closure of the merger is expected next spring.
Gates is a manufacturer of hoses and belts for industrial and automotive applications. Gates has Southeast Missouri operations at Poplar Bluff and Charleston.
Tomkins PLC owns 72 industrial companies in the world and employs more than 46,000 people. Among Tomkins companies are Smith and Wesson Corp. and Murray Bicycles and Lawnmowers in the United States.
