National Tourism Week will be the focus of the program. On hand for the event will be Gary Gonder, Missouri Division of Tourism, Jefferson City; Lyn Muzzy, director of the Cape Girardeau Convention and Visitors Bureau; Evelyn Boardman, representative of downtown Cape Girardeau; Mark Seesing and Linda Minner of Aviation Days '92; and other area representatives.

Prizes will be presented during the hour-and-a-half event, which starts at 9 a.m.

Environmental requirements' impact on industry and strategies that should be implemented are among topics to be discussed during a daylong seminar Wednesday at the Holiday Inn in Cape Girardeau.

The seminar, presented by Dames and Moore, an environmental consulting firm, and Sonnenschein, Nath and Rosenthal, a law firm, will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Cost of the seminar is $75, which includes lunch.

Margaret Turner of Cape Girardeau has been elected president of the new Student Government Board at Metro Business College in Cape Girardeau.

The new board was founded to encourage student participation in school programs, sponsor activities, and act as a liaison between the student body and the administration.

Other officers include Jill Hagan of Millersville, secretary, and representatives Deanne Massa of Marble Hill, Sandy Jones of Ava, Ill., Christine Baker and Doris Engert, both of Jackson, and Marilyn Randol of Cape Girardeau.

Amateur singers will have an opportunity to perform during a special program at West Park Mall May 8.

Disc Jockey store manager Jane McBride is organizing the event, which will benefit District 9 Special Olympics.

Singers will have a chance at the microphone from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Each singer may select a song and perform to professionally pre-recorded background music.

The program is being sponsored by Disc Jockey, Maxell Tapes, Q-99 FM, Laser Karaoke of Kansas City, and West Park Mall merchants.

Performers will make a donation of $5, which includes a souvenir audio tape of the performances and a chance to win prizes provided by mall merchants. Proceeds from the event will be donated to Special Olympics.
